We believe the intermediate complexes in square brackets have a short lifetime due to their reactivity and are too fast to be observed in situ. We also performed EPR and did not observe any non-spin = 0 compounds!

@Chemrissa @marcuswdrover @jzurakowski1 @AustenBrady @ChemUWindsor @UWindsor Hi Marissa! Yes you are correct, ligand dissociation is required for PhI to perform oxidative addition! We did attempt to synthesize the single phosphine ligand Ni(COD) complex, however we found only the bis(P2BCy4) Ni complex can be obtained.
