I wrote a few emails today thanking publishers/agents for their initial interest in my work… which led nowhere. And that’s fine, that’s all good.
It felt equal parts devastating/invigorating to be taking control back.
I’m going indie knowing it’s the right decision for me.
There’s a show called Human Resources, and in the current season a character named Hope enters and disappears depending on the situation.
The show is hilarious and I love it, but I’ve never felt more like one of Hope’s clients than I do now.
Hope has left the building.
I have time today so I'm going to talk to you about my writing process - something that I believe helped me get an agent really fast (3 days) and helped her sell GOOD GIRLS DIE LAST just as fast (3 weeks).
You may not like it, it's very unromantic, but it works for me.
@kheslopwrites I’m a Libra and I’ve cut plenty of people out of my life. I wouldn’t say I’ve held a grudge. I wish them well and hope they’re having great lives, but they will not be a part of mine. From the outside looking in, maybe not giving second chances counts as grudgekeeping though?
In an attempt to distract myself from the depressing throes of querying, I wrote another book!
Complete at 72k words, I’m about to enter my fave stage which is editing.
So despite the 2 rejections that hit my inbox this morning, I’m pretty happy 😊 #WritingCommmunity#writerlift
Received 2 more rejections: 29/80 Oddly enough I want another rejection for the purpose of making it an even number
But don’t worry! A third came in a minute ago and my numbers are even again. All is right with the world…? #writercommunity#amquerying#Writer#WritingCommmunity
@MetzgerKaty Ohh can relate so much to this article Katy! I’m so glad you got your series deal and didn’t turn it into a standalone. You knew what was best for you and your work and went for it! I’m definitely going to try small presses before I move into self publishing - thanks Katy ❤️
