لم يكن أمام معظم النساء خيار حقيقي.

مارست عليهن عائلاتهن ضغوطًا.
وتوقعت المجتمعات منهن الطاعة. وشجع القانون نفسه على الصمت.

لكن فرانكا فيولا رفضت.

في سن السابعة عشرة، وبعد صدمة نفسية وعار علني، رفضت الزواج من الرجل الذي اعتدى عليها.

هذه الكلمة وحدها غيرت إيطاليا إلى الأبد.

أثار قرارها غضبًا عارمًا في بلدتها.

انقلب الجيران على عائلتها.
وأُحرقت كروم العنب وبساتين الزيتون انتقامًا.

لكن والد فرانكا وقف إلى جانبها ودعم قرارها برفع دعوى قضائية.

في عام 1966، أدلت فرانكا بشهادتها علنًا ضد المعتدي في المحكمة.

في وقتٍ كان يُتوقع فيه من معظم الضحايا التزام الصمت إلى الأبد، تحدثت بصراحة أمام البلاد بأسرها.

تابعت إيطاليا الأمر بصدمة.

أُدين المعتدي، فيليبو ميلوديا، وحُكم عليه بالسجن.

لأول مرة في التاريخ الإيطالي، رفضت امرأة علنًا "الزواج التعويضي" وانتصرت.

أصبحت القضية خبرًا عالميًا.

لكن القانون نفسه ظل قائمًا.

لمدة 15 عامًا أخرى، كان بإمكان المغتصبين في إيطاليا، من الناحية النظرية، الإفلات من العقاب بالزواج من ضحاياهم.

ثم أخيرًا، في عام 1981، ألغت إيطاليا القانون تمامًا.

وأشار العديد من الناشطين إلى قضية فرانكا فيولا باعتبارها اللحظة التي بدأت فيها البلاد بمواجهة قسوة ذلك القانون.

بعد سنوات، تزوجت فرانكا من صديق طفولتها الذي ساندها في قضيتها لأنها كانت تستحق الحب والكرامة وحياةً تختارها بنفسها ."

Israel has a policy called “administrative detention” that allows them to kidnap Palestinians and imprison them for 6 month increments without any charges whatsoever. These holdings can drag out for years.

Over 3,000 Palestinians were being held on administrative detention in Israeli prisons on October 7. That’s why Hamas took all those Israelis back to Gaza. To exchange for their release.

But do you see how that works? When Israel kidnaps people and holds them for months and years on end, they are simply “prisoners on administrative detention.” But when Hamas does it, they are “hostages.”
