It's an honor to be one of ten researchers chosen to present today at the Embassy of the Republic Indonesia.
I discussed my PhD project, which looks into the possibility of using AI to counterattack other "malicious" AI systems in elections [1/2]

So inspiring to attend @dutchdesignweek again, and to have @DemosAILab featured through two events: More Than Human Design, hosted by our co-director @nazlicila, @Zaga_daga, @minhappylee; & Karin Bogdanova's @seinzumdata workshop "Using care for responsible AI development".
Thanks a lot to @jordi_viader and @dmuravyov2 for organizing such an engaging event, which showcased how framing the definitions is a challenging and not neutral process. And all the work of getting on the same page across the disciplines! Tune in to @DemosAILab for future events
For @DemosAILab blog, I've written a short piece about the political dimension of algorithmic error: my point is that algorithmic fallibility is a limited point of political claim-making https://t.co/EaLhoGW6DE
Designers, computer scientists, philosophers, social scientists and anyone simply interested in exploring the role of AI in democratic practices are welcome to join our first workshop!
On March 15, our @DemosAILab will have its first event, which @jordi_viader and I have organized – join us for collective moments of reading into AI, design, and democracy to reflect on the implications of vocabulary and concepts. https://t.co/7dvlzOwtT4
Excited to present our lab vision at AI lunch at @Mondai_AI last Thursday! It was curious to hear feedback from other AI designers on the suggested shift from *democratizing AI* to *developing AI for democracy*
New blog is out!📑 @dmuravyov2 describes a classic sociological term that underlines the idea of friendship, as it is understood by social media algorithms

Join us tomorrow at 12.00 at @Mondai_AI at TU Delft for the presentation of our @DemosAILab with pitches from all five PhD researchers, and the overview talk by Nazli Cila and myself as PIs #designingdemocracy
➡️Community-led design and AI in public space
Meike Hardt is researching how to design AI „otherwise“ for the critical engagement of marginalized communities and the contestations and negotiation of decisions by AI systems in the public space/spheres.
➡️AI, privacy and deliberate decision-making in elections
@firauliya proposes the use of adversarial ML to fool malicious AI systems. She's exploring conceptual, empirical and technical domains to uphold voters' privacy and political decision-making using social media data
➡️Pluralistic algorithm design in digital mental health
@seinzumdata looks into ways of designing AI for mental health management and diagnosis that would representative and inclusive of complexity of experiences and expressions of mental distress and wellbeing
➡️Social media and democratic participation
Combining visual theory, political philosophy, and new media practice, Jordi Viader Guerrero inquires about novel modes of political agency and subjectivation mediated by social media, as well as political ontology of technology
➡️Societal implications of synthetic media
@dmuravyov2 addresses how #deepfakes (audio and visual) shape human interrelations and trust. He is interested in how the proliferation of this media changes such politically significant categories as face, authenticity, and evidence

Inspired to start new projects and collaborations!
Our lab has launched!💫@DemosAILab explores how #AI impacts democratic practices and how, in turn, democratic practices can be embedded in the #design of AI systems. Here are the key areas we're focusing on ➡️➡️➡️
DeMoS AI Lab had its first interactive workshop today, where the team members brainstormed on the future plans, education, collaborations and identity of the lab. Stay tuned for the future events, coming in February 2023 #democracy#design#responsibleai
