Can someone explain how Prince Edward, who is neither in active military service nor serving in the Armed Forces, is able to receive Ministry of Defence funding for repairs to his home?

Didn’t he leave military training after six months? Or have honorary titles and self-awarded medals somehow become a substitute for actual military service?
