Fresh allegations involving Garda whistleblowers, the death of Colm Horkan and a controversial prosecution raise serious questions about State accountability

McEntee told the house on Thursday that she didn’t disclose the identity of a whistleblower when she sent his protected disclosure back to An Garda Síochána in 2023.

The whistleblower, Detective Superintendent Brian O’Reilly, as reported in the Irish Examiner, disputes this. He says the garda commissioner was unaware he had gone to the minister.

Aontu’s Peadar Toibin has accused the minister of breaking the law in sending on the protected disclosure to An Garda Síochána. It is certainly the case that she has refused to say what law she was acting under.

Again on Thursday, she waffled around all she had done, but still won’t cite the law she acted under.

Multiple media reports, including in the Irish Examiner, have detailed how there appears to have been a cover-up about the flawed holster, both before and after Garda Horkan’s murder.

Thursday was also the day that Michael McDowell made some startling revelations in the Seanad. He told the house that one of the whistleblowers who has featured in recent coverage is a man by the name of Luke Rochford. He is before the criminal courts.

“I am quite satisfied that he has been the victim of a major vicious campaign to incriminate him and put him in the position of being a defendant in a trial on indictment,” McDowell said.

Polish individuals were caught doing this back in 2010 how has their not been changes made to the system to prevent this. Also as the Irish government allow social welfare and other payments to be made to revolut accounts their are probably thousands receiving payments while residing full time in other countries. But this is about so much more than Christian. It’s about every child who has suffered. Every family who has fought to be heard. Every parent who has watched their child deteriorate while desperately seeking the care they needed. And the children we have tragically lost along the way.

We cannot change what these children have endured, but we can fight to make sure their suffering is not ignored, their stories are not buried, and their futures are not forgotten.

That is WHY we are calling for a FULL, INDEPENDENT, PUBLIC INQUIRY.

When children have suffered, when families have been left with unanswered questions, and when lives have been lost, the public deserves transparency, families deserve answers, and those affected deserve to have their voices heard.

An inquiry held behind closed doors cannot give families the same public accountability they are calling for.

These children are not statistics. They are not inconvenient stories. They are not something to be quietly moved on from. THEY ARE OUR CHILDREN.

Christian will not be forgotten.
