@wanderingdave@transport_tom You really want to let billionaires & legislators decide our fate?? I say we finish Emerald Ribbon so we have a backstop to prevent potential missteps caused by MLB et al
@RockyAnderson Isn’t the more pertinent question how often those “two hot tubs” need to be refilled due to the water evaporating after being spread out thinly on concrete paths in the summer sun? It may take little to operate, but that only matters in a vacuum, evaporation is the real problem.
I've had several people tell me recently that they've started biking because of new bike infrastructure that the City has built.
Induced demand is a real thing for highways, but it's also a real thing for biking and transit. And it's so much more fun, healthy, and sustainable.
If this line of thinking encourages us to allow for a broader range of civil partnerships that increase access to health insurance (which is in the end one of the driving factors behind this phenomenon), that's great. Or we could just make sure everyone has access to healthcare.
ICYMI: Every single day, homeless service providers in Utah are trying to save lives. Rain, sleet, snow, -10 or 110 degrees. To say otherwise is to show a level of ignorance about just how brutal it is to be homeless and how much effort goes into ending it for each individual.
Those choosing (and for many, it IS a choice) to live in the subsidized suburbs are NOT entitled to free-flow car traffic capacity (aka an “easy car commute”) into the city at the expense of the taxes, health, safety & quality of life of city-dwellers.

@wanderingdave That is what happened in the spring of 1983. Massive snowpack, then rapid warming that melted everything too quickly. State street and others were literally rivers. Google it. But I think we have a long way to go yet.

“In Finland, the # of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” https://t.co/EH3reri9lz
The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility.
Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it.

@wanderingdave@divelept @NigelforL You’d think that, but there is a lot of data to the contrary. Jarod is right. Although rents are usually similar regardless of what neighborhood, it’s just harder to pass approval to rent in what’s often considered the nicer areas. It’s expensive to be poor.
