"Dying for your country is a patriotic fairy tale. In reality, you will bleed out in the mud like a butchered dog for absolutely nothing." - Ernest Hemingway
When a toxic person hurls an insult at you, hits you with a cruel critique, or accuses you of a specific malice, it can feel incredibly personal. It’s designed to make you shrink, defensive, and introspective.
But psychologically, the loudest accusations are almost always confessions. When a person cannot tolerate the reality of their own flaws, they must cast them outward.
Their insults are simply the internal noise of their own insecurity echoing out into the room.
