The underfunding of social spending on budgets in Zimbabwe is highly attributed to rampant corruption. The elites continue to defraud the state whilst the majority continue to suffer socio economic woes, thereby magnifying inequalities between the rich and the ordinary people.
The debt crisis in Zimbabwe has resulted in the cutting of social spending by the government in order to create funds for debt repayments. This coupled with other austerity measures e.g. higher taxes on the poor has resulted in gross socio - economic inequalities.
