Russia does not always need to invade a country to take control of it. In Belarus, it found a dictator willing to trade our sovereignty for his own survival.

Russian troops are stationed on our soil. Our territory has been used to attack Ukraine. Belarusians who stand up to the dictatorship are locked in prisons and penal colonies.

Ukraine has a democratically elected government defending its independence alongside its people. In Belarus, the man controlling the state opened the door to Moscow and imprisoned those who challenged him.

A European country’s sovereignty was traded for one man’s grip on power. Belarusians never agreed to that bargain.

Our struggle for democracy is also a struggle for independence. Europe must support those fighting for a free Belarus and refuse to accept Russian control over our country as permanent.

Belarus was never Lukashenka’s to sell.

Some 6,000 people — 200 of them children — are right now starving to death in a humanitarian catastrophe orchestrated by Vladimir Putin's Russia.

The town of Oleshky and its surrounding district in the occupied part of Kherson Oblast exist under Russian occupation as a prison — and it is rapidly turning into a death camp.

No one is allowed in or out. The last food delivery was on May 26. Medical supplies are close to non-existent.

Ukrainian troops are back inside Luhansk, which means that after four and a half years, a mountain of dead conscripts and an economy held together by crude oil and press releases, Russia does not hold the whole of a single one of the four oblasts it claims to have annexed. Ukraine, meanwhile, is calmly burning through its refineries, fuel depots and airbases as though working from a shopping list.

So naturally the Kremlin gets louder everywhere else. The drones over European airports and the cut cables are not strength, they are the noise a losing side makes to remind everyone it still exists.

Which is where it becomes genuinely stupid. European NATO and Canada field roughly two million troops in uniform, several million more in reserve, and economies about ten times Russia's. Provoking that lot into joining Ukraine properly is not strategy.

The world is a strange thing. As soon as we let something into our lives, it always gains momentum and scale. We didn't invite war here, but the russians forced it to our doorstep. Our earth is vast, and most of us will not get to see even 10 percent of this world. Yet the world allows wars to happen here. Over the years of war, footage of any destruction in my country has effectively become a part of life, both for my people and for other nations watching it all from afar. Nowadays, there is no need to saddle a horse and rush somewhere where events are raging just to see and verify it in person. That is why the world simply watches the war in my country, even while sitting on the couch. And here in Ukrainian cities, from city to city, the momentum and scale of the tragedy only grow. Odesa is precisely that city today, and the residents of this building are witnessing all the "charms" of modern civilized society: some kill us every day, while others watch the process. Yes, this is a human world, and we Ukrainians are right at the epicentre of these events.

The Ukrainian city of Bakhmut - before the russians weren't there, and after they came. Now the city's name is rarely mentioned; it has faded from the news cycle. Today, other cities in my country are fighting for their survival, just like the locals who live in them.

Bakhmut is just a few memories of how Ukrainians lived in their hometown before the russian war: everything was blooming, life was in the air, and children's laughter echoed here and there. This war has scattered all these people - across Ukraine, across the entire world...
