Books do not damage kids. If it’s too advanced, they stop reading. A ton of other things damage kids at school: bullying, sexual harassment and assault, cruelty and insults from students and teachers. Books help kids deal with all of this trauma.
What is the point of throwing $768 billion at the military when there's no war, at a time when millions of families are going hungry — and continue to lack the care they need to survive, let alone thrive?
Forgive me for sounding like a broken record, but how on Earth are we supposed to believe we “can’t afford” paid family leave, universal pre-K, or climate action when our politicians are willing to pass a $768 billion annual defense budget without batting an eye?
