I had to check myself. I had to face myself. Instead of blaming my teachers, my family members, or anyone else, I took responsibility and put the matter into my own hands.
Today, I’m 33 years old, and guess what I know how to read.

No matter how long I played in the NFL, I signed a contract with the Detroit Lions. I earned my college degree, on top of that I couldn’t even read.
You must stay focused and be intentional about where you want to go in life. Be patient, stay determined, and be ready to persevere

It hurt because my mother and grandmother are no longer here with me on this earth in the flesh. I worked so hard to build my dreams, only to realize that my fear of reading was going to slow me down.

When I first walked into the building, there was a student who wouldn’t show me any love or even speak to me. After he heard my story, he gave me a handshake and put his arm around my shoulder. He told me he was going through a lot at home, but now ready to take ownership
