@YusufErim34 It is easy to see why authoritarian leaders like Putin, Erdogan and Xi want to see #Trump reelected. It is easy to see why people working for them (like you) want to see Trump reelected. The question is if people like you understand that people understand the above. I doubt.
@RichOutzen Turkey always plays a critical role in virtually all regional conflicts only according to...Turkey's apologists/lobbyists in Washington...#IranAttackIsrael
@ragipsoylu It is absolutely necessary for the turkish government to portray itself as an intermediary or mediatior in virtually all regional conflicts.
@ragipsoylu I understand you. You are entirely correct on this. But, if a country like Turkey preaches human rights, international law and free speech to others, why can't Germany do the same?
@ragipsoylu Turkey was expelled from the F-35 program in 2019, asked for F-16s in 2021, the sale was approved in early 2024, the contract will be signed (presumably) in 2024 and Turkey will start receiving them around 2028-2029.
This whole story is definitely not a "win" for Erdogan.
@YusufErim34 Back then there was Reagan, Thatcher, Kohl, Mitterrand. Compare with today.
And why do you think NATO was weaker then? Because it had less members?
@ragipsoylu What actually frustrates Erdogan is that he has no real influence over the events. Unlike Ukraine, he can't actually mediate. And he cannot sell this mediation to Turks (portraying himself as a great leader) and the West (portraying Turkey as an indispensable ally).
@Aytanri@ragipsoylu Would Turkey ask for new F-16s or Eurofighters if it hadn't been expelled from the F-35 program? I think not. But you may know better.
@ragipsoylu Turkey has illegally invaded and occupied parts of three neighbors (Cyprus, Syria and Iraq). Also now calls on Ethiopia to respect the territorial integrity of Somalia.
This is the world we live in.
@EmreIsbara@ragipsoylu What does "according to its own thesis" mean? If Greece signs a maritime deal with Israel, "according to its own thesis", then the waters between Greece and Israel belong to them? No man. In the same way, the waters around Crete don't belong to Turkey just because Turkey says so.
@EmreIsbara@ragipsoylu Greece signed the maritime deal as a necessary response to the Turkey-Libya "deal". Greece has proposed to go to the @CIJ_ICJ to solve the East Mediterranean issue but Turkey denies to do so. Why? What is Turkey afraid of?
@ragipsoylu UNCLOS has been adopted by almost all countries and is now considered customary international law.Maybe such an international-law-abiding country as Turkey should sign it? Nah, just kidding. That would totally undermine Turkey's expansionist policy in the Eastern Mediterranean.
@ragipsoylu Turkey signed a memorandum with Libya's interim government without the knowledge and consent of Greece, essentially pretending that the Greek islands don't exist, and now...preaches international law to Ethiopia and Somaliland...
How touching.
@ragipsoylu NATO signed the accession protocol for Sweden on 5 July 2022 and a turkish parliamentary committe may vote for it in...late December 2023 "AS A GOODWILL GESTURE"....
How good you are. An exemplary NATO ally, indeed...
@YusufErim34 Turkey was expelled from the F-35 program in 2019, asked for new and modernized F-16s in 2021 and in December 2023 still hopes that this issue will be solved...sometime in 2024. Good luck...
