Looking into the Weibo admin article rumor that’s been flying around, it seems like a mix of truth and lies. But either way, it doesn’t change anything for the Valko boycott:

-I did some digging, I was able to find a screenshot of the google doc that allegedly was a draft submitted to the person in contact with the media. When someone asked the author if their doc was the final version published, they admitted they didn’t know, they were just asked to draft it, but were unsure what revisions took place or what parts of their draft were included in the final version.

-Ppl who were able to read the full thing noted that the writing style, stance, and content were different from what was posted in China Reform Daily (which is the state media site). As far as I’m concerned, that article is the only one that really matters.

-The article posted in CRD takes a very neutral stance, not advocating for or against Valko, but rather observing the controversy, and criticizing the actions of PPG & the negative impact they could have on foreign markets (Wouldn’t they be more biased in their reporting if they had a direct agenda to reinstate Valko?).

-In order for it to be reposted in CRD, it has to be triple verified at 3 different levels (since it’s affiliated w official gov opinion). So regardless of who wrote the article, it’s still something state media decided to stand behind. That doesn’t take away from its credibility. CRD is a site that cannot be bought. It still helps the boycott.

-Either way, the articles did their job bc the media harassment did die down afterwards & it helped clear Valko’s reputation to the public. So who bought the other articles doesn’t really matter.

-The more CN girlies disprove misinfo to sway public opinion, the more effective the pressure of the Valko boycott will be, bc PPG will have fewer excuses to justify his cancellation. It’s critical we get to this point, but it’s going to take time.

-It’s also worth remembering that nothing is forever in the business world. Major projects like Valko are always up for negotiation bc of the sunk cost of investment and high potential ROI. Don’t fall for ppl instilling a false sense of urgency, bc it’ll just burn you out. This is a marathon not a sprint. It could take several months of sustained boycotting to see results.

-The last official statement on the matter from PPG was Valko’s cancellation. That has not changed. The boycott exists to apply pressure to make PPG reverse that decision. Considering their silence, PPG thinks our voices still aren’t loud/aggressive enough to be worth addressing or to change their mind.

-So if you’re feeling confused, angry, or betrayed, focus on the basics: Don’t log in, don’t spend, don’t shut up about Valko. Call PPG out for their literal crimes (false advertising/consumer fraud) and for violating their gov contracts by ignoring global players & damaging China’s reputation abroad.

Until they release another statement, don’t listen to rumors & don’t stop applying pressure. They think they can ignore us until we give up and go away. We won’t let that happen. Valko’s coming home whether they want to give him to us or not.
