In one study about ethical conflict and moral distress in veterinarians, >70% reported having no training in conflict resolution or self-care. The study recommended implementing resources well-established for human healthcare providers. #vet#veterinarian#mentalhealth#vetschool
@DocLT2@MortuaryReport @em_would Defending someone who hurtfully exploited a chance to make a joke is inconsistent with your call for people to own their behavior.
@MortuaryReport @em_would People who hurt others the way I have are overwhelmingly victims of emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse as children. Dismissing the medically proven fact that abuse victims are more likely to become abusers supports the cycle. Acknowledging the link is part of breaking it.
@MortuaryReport @em_would I am deeply grateful to have people in my life who hold me accountable for my destructive choices while feeling compassion for what informed those choices instead of reducing me to a cliche that sheds no light and doesn’t help anyone heal, including those I hurt.
@DocLT2@MortuaryReport @em_would I own my choices. Speaking publicly about how destructive and abusive behavior can be informed by childhood abuse and other trauma IS owning choices. No choice is made in a vacuum - we can discuss reasons without confusing them with excuses. In fact, that’s part of making change.
TFW @RussellsReserve hits different and instead of putting the cork back on, you drop your @SennheiserUSA Momentum TW 2 earbuds into the bottle, playback continues, & the submerged one works just fine when you manage to get it out 😬
@BlacRen@chescaleigh@letitiawright It’s definitely tough when your reach is far enough to help or hurt that many people - it makes the consequences bigger, good or bad. Not a position a envy, and I’m grateful to folks who wield their influence thoughtfully. Glad to see this discussion.
@BlacRen@chescaleigh@letitiawright I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I say things in a group that hurt someone or put someone at risk. While a private rebuke stings less, I see the value to my own growth and for the group in addressing the issue openly - especially when the harm goes beyond an individual.
@BlacRen@chescaleigh@letitiawright I get being concerned about cancel culture, it’s important that criticism/counsel be constructive - though the two get conflated. It’s appropriate to respond to public comment publicly when it concerns the public & it’s important to shoulder criticism when you do harm.
