The most underrated skill that lands the gig in Web3 isn’t "networking" or having a polished CV.

It’s something my mentor tagged “The Trojan Horse Strategy.”

I’ve seen people (and used this myself) to land high-ticket roles without ever sending a pitch, a DM, or clicking a single "Apply" button.

In a space built on permissionless contribution, the best way to get hired is to start working before you’re even on the payroll. (😄 Someone is about to leave this post because of free value offering, wait first).

The goal?
Flip the power dynamic. Move from being a supplicant chasing an opportunity to a contributor being recruited.

Here is the 3-phase blueprint to becoming indispensable:

Phase 1: Infiltration (The "Silent Fixer")

Newbies often make the mistake of asking, "How can I help?" This is a trap. It gives the team more homework. Team members in any community are natural dogs when it comes to sniffing out job hunters.

Instead, find a "leak" and plug it without being asked.

• The Bad Kind:
Being a "hype man" who just says "LFG" and "Great project" in the Discord and Telegram.

• The Good Kind:
Noticing the onboarding docs are confusing and rewriting them. Spotting a bug in the dApp and recording a Loom on how to fix it. Delivering a clean marketing template when the current one is lagging. Or even a small notice to any strategy omission in the community build.

Phase 2: Escalation (The "Strategic Lead")

Once you’ve fixed the small things, start providing the "logic." This is where you move from fixing the past to shaping the future.

• The Bad Kind:
Tagging the Founder to "hop on a quick call" to discuss your "ideas."

• The Good Kind:
Dropping a high-signal "Narrative Analysis" or a "User Flow Audit" in the public chat.

Then the Admins start DMing you for clarity on your takes, and the Dev is in your DMs asking for permission to use your input, the "Trojan Horse" is inside the walls.

Phase 3: Inevitability (The "Load-Bearing Pillar")

After 1–6 weeks of this, you aren't "looking for work"—you are already doing it.

The team is now using your templates, your strategy, and your feedback to run the project.

The Shift:
You have become a load-bearing pillar. If you stop contributing today, their momentum breaks. You now have the ultimate leverage.

The Reality Check:

One of two things happens next:
1. The Inbound:
They DM you an official offer because they can’t imagine operating without you.

2. The Soft-Pitch:
You pitch from a position of leverage, not desperation. You aren't asking for a chance; you're offering to scale the value you've already proven.

The Bottom Line:
If your free work is average, this fails. You’re just a fan.
If your work is outstanding, you become indispensable.

Stop chasing the "Open to Work" banner. Start infiltrating the ecosystem.

Deliver value - Become indispensable - Get recruited.
