Kenya's debt has reached Kshs 7.7 trillion since 2013, during Uhuru tenure. A World Bank report reveals 4,000 ongoing projects are stalled. Among these, 522 projects worth Kshs 1 trillion are dormant and need to be canceled to save costs.
The Northern Corridor, comprising 22 stalled projects worth Sh798 billion, and sectors like water, irrigation, and environment, which have 216 dormant projects valued at Sh26.7 billion, are of particular concern.
Factors like litigation, land acquisition issues, and donor funding suspensions contribute to the dormancy of some projects. The current Leadership is doing their best to ensure that they complete all development projects and stop those that has less social value to save on taxpayers money and reduce recurring financing on top of debt repayment burden.
