@AstuteHistorian – softly as his hand took hers. “I know you’re in a rush, but we need to talk. Meet me afterwards if you have to go now,” he said by way of a plea. He had to make her understand his choice. He had to. He wasn’t expecting it to turn into a reunion, but she had to know how he felt.
Being too engrossed in one’s job, sometimes, has its benefits. For instance, it’s been a while since he’s found himself spaced out. There was no time for that; his return to The Prophet presented so many problems, he barely had any time to even eat or sleep. –
@AstuteHistorian
@AstuteHistorian – more open than him, which he enjoyed immensely before, but it hurt him so much now to see that she was still hurting too. He wondered if it would’ve hurt less if she was happy with someone else, but the very thought brought so much bitterness.
“Rhiannon, wait,” he called –
@AstuteHistorian – he’s had such emotion, really.
“All of a sudden, time spent with me is a chore again. But it was a pleasure seeing you, Miss Madley. If only to hear my first name again,” he gave her a nod, still not a glance, as he distanced himself only far enough to allow her to walk away.
@AstuteHistorian This, he missed. Well, apart from a million other things. The way she spoke to him, the way she brought him out of the terrible places he had in his mind, the way she was and always has been...
Her words earned a chuckle from him. It sounded foreign; it’s been a while since –
@AstuteHistorian – her face, however.
Deep down, he was scared. Scared of what he’d feel if he allowed himself to look at her. Scared of what he’ll see – was she happy now without him? Was she sad still because of him?
@AstuteHistorian – “Miss Madley,” he said by way of greeting, as his hand found her arm to hold to steady her. Her skin felt nice and familiar to touch, and she was so close that that scent he has been obsessed with for a while hit him almost painfully.
He willed his gaze to remain away from –
@AstuteHistorian – of his lips. He stormed out of the room, leaving his people standing there with sad, telling looks on their faces.
They knew what to do.
@AstuteHistorian – to no end. It frustrated actual hardworking people in the paper to no end.
And so when he had just finished reading a page that contained that sort of anomaly, again, he tore and crumpled it quite violently. He held on to it, and his words, for fear of what might come out –
And, as long as he believed this and only this, as long as he held strong to this conviction, he was going to be fine.
He may have been practically living in the confines of his office or in the treacherous walls of the Ministry, but he was fine.
@AstuteHistorian
– were of little no consequence anyway. Perhaps, it was a phase. At least, that’s what he keeps telling himself.
He had to do this. He had to. It was for something more than just the two of them. She didn’t understand that, so they had to part ways. –
@AstuteHistorian
@AstuteHistorian – check if you got the list I sent you. They’re all big publishers but you shouldn’t have a problem, they all see potential in you and what you plan to achieve with the book.”
There. Business. Just business. The intensity of his stare, however, told a different story.
@AstuteHistorian He purposely ignored her response; he wasn’t here to argue, all he wanted was to see her and try to help somehow. And, of course, she was hanging out with Athena. He could tell from the first howler he received from the redhead, and many more that followed.
“I just wanted to –
@AstuteHistorian “I brought lunch,” he began, clearly startled that she even opened the door and at a loss now that she was right there before her. “You don’t have to eat it with me, I’ll leave as soon as you want me to.”
He let out a sigh, cursing inwardly at his behaviour.
“I just wanted to –
@AstuteHistorian –feels like to be whole.
She’d probably laugh at that, but it was true. And he owed her a whole lot for making him feel that way, even just for a while.
So he knocked on her door (using his key wouldn’t have been appropriate) and waited, hoping it won’t be slammed at his face.
