BISHOP'S GATE VOTED ONE OF UK'S TOP HOTELS

@BGhotelderry has featured in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for the third year in a row.

Last year the Grade B1 hotel placed no.3 in the UK’s Top Hotels Overall category, and this year they have moved up to second place.

SF Cllr Sharon Duddy is urging people to donate any unwanted Christmas gifts they received to local charity shops.

DERRY BOMB: 50 YEAR OLD RELEASED UNCONDITIONALLY

All five people arrested after Saturday's Bishop Street Courthouse car bomb have been released unconditionally.

The latest to be released was a 50-year old man. Police believe the bomb was planted by the so-called the 'New IRA.'

BREXIT PROPOSALS "DUP LOVE LETTER" - ANDERSON

Martina Anderson MEP has criticised proposals to give Stormont powers to vote on new EU rules as a "love letter to the DUP."

The proposal to hand voting powers to Stormont was put forward by Cabinet Office Minister David Liddington.

CONCERNS ABOUT OPENING OF DERRY MEDICAL SCHOOL

Cllr Sinead McLaughlin has said "time is of the essence" in regards to the opening of a proposed medical school in Derry.

She said: "time is once again running out to get approval to proceed with the [medical school] development."

DERRY WOMAN CALLS UNIVERSAL CREDIT SYSTEM “HORRIFIC”

A woman who cares full-time for her severely disabled grandson has condemned the new Universal Credit application process as “horrific.”

The unnamed woman has not yet received her first payment, going six weeks without money.

ABERCORN ROAD TO RECEIVE £500K FACE LIFT

DCSD Council's Environment & Regeneration Committee has announced that a popular Derry street will get a £500,000 upgrade.

The work will include upgrades described as "decorative interventions" and is set to be completed on 31 March 2019

MAN HAD KNIFE IN DERRY NIGHTCLUB

David Barr, 18, of Francis Street in Derry admitted in court to possession of a knife in a nightclub on 19 July 2018.

Police arrived after he was spotted with a knife in the nightclub. He received three months in prison, suspended for two years.

GAMBLING ARCADE TO OPEN DESPITE OBJECTIONS

A gambling arcade will open at 33 William Street, Derry City Centre despite nearly 150 objections against the proposal.

DCSD Council voted against a recommendation to grant planning permission for the arcade but the vote was overruled.

HORROR AS KNIVES FOUND BURIED IN CREGGAN BACK - A mother of three in Creggan was shocked and disturbed to find two knives, including a dagger, buried on her property this week. The woman came across the two blades while cutting the grass in her back garden last Wednesday morning.

JEREMY CORBYN VISITS WALLED CITY - UK Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn was in Derry on a visit with politicians and business figures. The Labour leader is said to have received a very warm welcome, but left with warnings from locals about the effect Brexit could have on the North.

HEALTH CHIEF ADVISES PARENTS TO USE PHONES LESS - A Derry health figure says parents need to get "back to basics," spending more time with their children, and less using their mobile phones. The remarks were made at a recent meeting of DCSD Council’s Health & Community committee.

DEMANDS FOR ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION - Derry Sinn Fein are urging the electoral office to implement voter registration online in order to help get more people registered to vote. Online voter registration was introduced in Britain in 2014, and has helped increase voting numbers.

GAZA SOLIDARITY VIGIL IN GUILDHALL TONIGHT - the Guildhall in Derry will be lit up in the colours of the Palestinian flag at 11pm to show support for the people of Gaza following the killings of civilians by the Israeli forces during ongoing demonstrations at the border barrier.

£1M MAN UTD STARLET LEAVES BRANDYWELL - Ghanaian forward John Cofie, who was once brought to Man Utd by Alex Ferguson for a reported million pound fee, has left Derry City after failing to revitalise his career. Only 25 years old, he managed just five appearances without scoring.
