The time change serves as a bi-annual reminder to test all smoke and CO alarms in your home. If you find an alarm that is not working or is expired, replace the alarm immediately. Review your fire-escape plan with your family and hold a drill to practice your plan.
On Friday October 18th, members of DPFD Local 4211 along with friends and family of Paul Miller were presented the Life Saving Partners Award by Gift of Hope. This was given in recognition for everything the DPFD did honoring our brother FF/PM Paul Miller.
The DPFD continues to conduct training on the buildings on Ellinwood and Lee Streets that will soon be demolished to make way for a luxury apartment complex. Training continues for the next couple of weeks and will include participation of neighboring fire departments.
Congratulations to Candidates Michael Rossi & Arturo Mora for graduating with Honors from the NIPSTA Fire Academy earlier this month. They join fellow-candidate Faizan Khan in field training. Candidate Khan recently attended a fire academy and thus did not need to attend again.
Des Plaines Fire & Police Departments, & mutual aid partners, handled the scene of a two-car crash on Wolf & Forest Friday morning. An βEMS Planβ upgrade was activated, and 4 stable patients were transported to the hospital. Traffic in both directions was shut-down for a while.

Thank you to all who joined us for the Commemoration Ceremony at the 9-11 Memorial at City Hall on the 18th anniversary of the attacks. We appreciate the opportunity to honor those who have fallen together with the citizens who continually support us. We will never forget!

Crews made an aggressive coordinated attack on an attic fire in a two-flat on Sunday, bringing quick extinguishment to the flames advancing in the attic and associated hidden spaces. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Occupants and pets made it out safely.
The DPFD was busy this past weekend with public appearances throughout the City. We enjoy interacting with our neighbors at fun community events.
