Hired a 21-year-old girl for our storage and ops team 3 months ago.
She’s the first earning member of her family. Her father was a labourer.
This week, she bought her mother her first smartphone.
Her family's financial condition is finally changing step by step.
Her mom calls me "Beta."
Moments like this… this is why I do what I do. 🙌❣️
My name is Prasanna, who previously founded Rippling (worth $10B); I'm going through a divorce. I'm now on the run from the Chennai police hiding outside of Tamil Nadu. This is my story.
For those who haven't come across it yet, here's a handy trick to discuss an entire GitHub repo with an LLM:
=> Just replace "github" with "gitingest" in the url, and you get the whole repo as a single string that you can then paste in your LLMs
Indian tech influencers are reacting to DeepSeek in hilarious ways.
"Why can't we build our own LLM? What's stopping us?"
Nothing.
"Shouldn't India have its own LLM?"
If there is a clear need, then yes. If it's for fixing your hurt national pride (China did it, so can we!), then no.
"But wouldn't we learn a lot along the way?"
We probably would either way. Operating systems, compilers, and programming languages didn't start in India. But we know how they work internally.
Think of LLMs similarly.
"Why doesn't the government do something?"
It's not the government's job. This requires effort from the private sector.
"Why doesn't TCS or Infosys do something?"
They run businesses to meet market needs. They would rather use existing LLMs than build one from scratch.
"Why don't startups build it?"
What's stopping you?
"Will VCs fund it?"
If there is a market need, then yes.
"But they didn't fund my deep-tech startup. Why?"
Because you suck, have no research experience, and no vision. You are like a child wailing "Mommy I want an LLM at home, and I want it now".
"No no, this must be a mentality problem! Aren't we just lazy?"
I have news for you: You are projecting.
TLDR: Tech influencers love to humiliate their audience. Their supporters (people with low self-esteem) join them to laugh at others.
Not knowing that they are laughing at themselves.
