I met a beautiful Rwandan girl here in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and we had a long conversation about life, comparing the politics of Uganda and Rwanda with the UAE. Everything was going smoothly until we touched on the darker side of Rwandan politics. Suddenly, she stopped me and said, βBefore we go any further, let me first see your passport. Are you sure youβre originally from Uganda?β
I asked her why, and she explained that in Rwanda, youβre allowed to talk about the good side of politics, but the moment you start discussing the bad side, things get a little complicated.
Imagine needing to verify someoneβs nationality before allowing them to criticize a government! I thought we were having a political discussion, only to discover I was apparently undergoing an immigration interview! ππ
Zimbabwe πΏπΌ and South Africa πΏπ¦ are discussing a proposed $500 million Thuli Moswa Dam in Zimbabwe.
The dam would store about 430 million cubic metres of water and supply up to 90 million cubic metres a year to the Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone in Limpopo.
South Africa would pay for the water under a 5 to 35-year agreement. A joint feasibility study is still under discussion, with no construction timeline confirmed.
The project would rank among the larger cross-border water schemes since the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
βA FF Plus councillor who serves on the partyβs federal executive spent nearly 14 years in prison for murder. More recently, he was investigated for sexual assault of a minor after allegedly asking a boy to show him his genitals, though that case was dropped. Now he wants to be the mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay.β
