We are a coalition of pathway providers that prepare international students for study at British Universities: CEG, INTO, Kaplan, Navitas & Study Group
For years now the @ToryReformGroup has been calling on the Government to not only take students out the immigration numbers but also to ensure that, as a global Britain, we make these young people feel welcome and at home
Great to see the important issue of international students raised in the House of Lords yesterday - as @Lord_Bilimoria said, we should bring back the two-year post-graduation work visa so that we can compete globally! https://t.co/iobPIqpjUN
Immigration white paper: muted welcome for UK's plans to introduce six-month post-study work visa (and continuing concern about impact of £30K salary threshold for skilled workers) https://t.co/8obG3xWmQh via @jgro_the
Immigration White Paper: Muted welcome for UK’s six-month post-study work visa. Welcome for abolition of cap on visas for skilled workers, but continuing concern over impact of £30,000 salary threshold https://t.co/IrQccGjiNJ via @timeshighered
Supporters of #WeAreInternational have responded to proposed changes to post-study work opportunities for international students in the Immigration White Paper, including the intention to allow all graduates to remain in the UK for up to six months after completing their studies.
The Home Secretary needs to set a clear and ambitious target to grow international student numbers – which should be supported by a cross-departmental strategy focused on recruitment and student experience. (4/5) #weareinternational
And the continuing confusion about the existence of the net migration target offers no clarity for students, who should not be a part of it. (3/5) #weareinternational
The provision of 6 months of post-study leave for students falls short of what our competitors offer. The White Paper has no detail on the intl student growth strategy that has been recommended by the cross-party membership of the @APPGIS. (2/5) #weareinternational
Today’s Immigration White Paper does not go far enough to help Britain to recover its global standing in the higher education export sector. We have waited too long for too little. (1/5) #weareinternational
Philosopher/ academic Jonathan Wolff argues British universities still do not have the full picture of the impact of Brexit & a crisis may be on the horizon with “half-finished buildings on every campus”, dependent on increasing student numbers. #weareinternational
BBC: International Institute of Education says enrolment of intl students at US universities down 10% over 2 yrs, while it has increased in Canada & Australia. Further proof UK needs to work to stay competitive #weareinternational https://t.co/M1pV1L3weP
Matt Bevington highlights that the alternatives to net migration to ensure we have enough working-age people in the UK include raising the retirement age, reducing health&pension benefits, cutting spending in other areas or borrowing more or raising taxes. #weareinternational
Education Secretary, Damian Hinds said: "I want to grow our international student base & I think there is a good opportunity to do so” #weareinternational (2/2)
The i reports the Dept for Education is pressing the Home Office to tweak immigration rules to ensure the UK can outbid its rivals for students. (1/2) #weareinternational https://t.co/5u2EdxkbJA
We welcome the recommendations of today's @APPGIS report - the UK is an exciting and inspiring place for international students to study and #intled is great for the UK. #WeAreInternational#UKELT https://t.co/tmnE09aSCB
Timely report today from @APPGIS. Life-saving research done in the UK depends on the ability of researchers – including students – to easily move and work together across borders. Read more on our position here: https://t.co/9yLPKwIW83
