#BREAKINGNEWS: Liverpool is officially a global City of Innovation! 🏆

The UN’s World Intellectual Property Organisation – (@WIPO) has just named Liverpool a winner of its inaugural City of Innovation award.

Liverpool was selected as one of the first 3 cities to receive the award, alongside its sister city Shanghai and Charleroi, in Belgium, and was chosen at a special ceremony in Geneva from a global shortlist of 15.

Liverpool’s winning ‘City of Innovation’ bid pledged to scale up activities to unlock the creative and growth potential of its diverse communities and business base, to further transform the entire city region.

It is fantastic international recognition for a city region where world-class science, technology, creativity and collaboration are being harnessed to improve lives, create high-value jobs and drive economic growth.

@MetroMayorSteve Rotheram, commented: “I’ve long said that we’re the UK’s innovation capital, and now we’ve got a global award to back it up.”

Another proud moment for Liverpool City Region, and another sign that our innovation story is being recognised on the world stage - coming just months after we were announced runner-up in the European City of Innovation awards.

The bid was led by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and @KQLiverpool, supported by @lpoolcouncil and @SciTecDaresbury.
