There's been much gaslighting & moderate justifying of the new Florida social studies standards, people stating the "clarifications" were designed to show Black resilience, or were just "facts." So, I thought I'd compare the African-American history standards to the Holocaust's.
'I Shall Not Be Moved' was made popular during the Civil Rights movement. @fraturrisi and I perform a particular version that I learned from my mentor, Joe Thompson- the North Carolina/Piedmont version. Recorded at the US Ambassador's Residence, Dublin for @OtherVoicesLive
A lot of outlets have been telling the story of Tony Bennett marching with MLK.
But have you ever heard the story about how “wokeness,” DEI, Jesus, an actual anti-racist, 2 church choirs & 1 of the greatest dance moves of all time got Tony Bennett into show biz?

When you get off the plane with the legendary Joan Baez you know it’s a movement of the spirit. She stands with us in our struggle in Tennessee and said she’s hopeful to see young voices leading.
“WE SHALL OVERCOME…”
Serendipitous, indeed.
Following up on my post from the other day, here is more depth to the story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers and their many visits to Tacoma more than a century ago - including an appearance in Stadium Bowl!

Women should be able to get birth control.
Women should be able to get abortion care.
Women should be able to make their own decisions about their own bodies.
None of this should be controversial.
As September comes to a close, I share the last teaser video for my forthcoming album.
“The Angels Changed My Name” is one of my favorites from a piece full of favorites, Coleridge-Taylor’s Twenty-Four Negro Melodies” Op. 59.

Dear evangelicals: As you believe in heaven and hell, isn't it more likely that the Devil sent Trump than God?
I mean think of the seven cardinal sins: pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony and sloth. Doesn't Trump embody all of these?
Just spitballing here. I'm a Buddhist.
Next time someone tells you that America isn’t a racist country, just remind them that this nation is willing to accept treason from a white president but not healthcare from a Black one.
The MAGA folks worry that if the FBI can search Trump’s home, they could be next. But they never worry that if the police can shoot Breonna Taylor in her own home, they could shoot them dead, too.
See the disconnect?
