Is it possible to be an optimistic realist?
I hope so. Although there is no universal formula, each of us has to find a balance — between hope and a sober assessment of reality, between personal happiness and principles.

For me, New Year’s is not a miracle.
It is a date, a number, the symbolic 00:00. But such a date is necessary. A reference point. A chance to pause and reset. Moral state matters, and ignoring it is a mistake.

A person’s psychological and moral state directly affects the outcome of any activity — in business, in government, but most importantly, in war.
Because war is not only about equipment and resources. It is, first and foremost, about people.

That is why any corruption scandals, selfish decisions, and managerial mistakes, especially those related to the front, have direct consequences. They demotivate soldiers, society, and their families. And these families are the foundation of the Ukrainian nation.
These things do not affect ratings — they affect the combat readiness of the state. And these are mistakes that must not be repeated.

I would really like decision-making centers in the new year to understand a simple but critically important fact:
any personal gain is only possible if the state exists. Political parties, popularity, careers, wealth, families — all of this only makes sense if the state exists and can protect itself. Selfish whims and attempts to satisfy personal gain may always appear, but no personal ambition justifies corruption or harm to the state. There are boundaries that must not be crossed. Right now, the country is at war, and anything that harms the state is a boundary that must never be violated.

Important areas of focus that I have noted for myself:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its current form and with its current leadership, is ineffective. This is evident in the long-standing neglect of issues going back decades.
Diplomacy must work to bring Ukrainians back from occupied territories and to protect the interests of the state, not exist formally. Leadership that fails to deliver results in wartime must be replaced.

The state must provide citizens with the legal right to possess short-barreled firearms for personal protection. In a country bordering a terrorist state, an armed society is an element of national security.

Most importantly — the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
We need not imitation reforms, but a complete change in management approaches. Building a system, not a chaotic, nepotistic, reactive anti-system.
A system in which incompetent people do not become colonels or generals.
A system in which responsible soldiers with combat experience grow into officers, understanding what it means to be an executor of orders — and this alone changes the approach to issuing orders.

We must not forget those who are currently in captivity. The state and society must do everything possible to bring them home.

These are the minimum conditions for the survival of the state in war.

Therefore, the main goal for all of us today is the victory of Ukraine in this war.
All activities of the state and its management structures must be assessed solely through this lens. There is no alternative.

Thank the military today for giving us the chance to live. Review your own mistakes and draw lessons.

Wisdom is not the absence of mistakes. Wisdom is the ability to recognize them and not repeat them.

So I wish all of us to become wiser in the new year.
