Flip snorts and rolls his eyes at the question. And detected a hint of...was that jealousy? Couldn’t be. The two men hated each other. “Didn’t realize you noticed that kind of bullshit,” he says coolly. They lapse into silence, flip thinking about how he can’t decide ++
Whether or not he’s having fun. On the one hand, he’s three drinks in so most of his walls are down and Dan actually has potential to be fun, but on the other hand, he’s staring at the man who has no patience for human error or realistic grasp of timelines.
Flip studies him, noticing the tension rolling off him in waves, as if he struck a nerve with that question. Not to mention the little stab of sympathy he felt at the man’s utter lack of a social life. If flip was being honest ++
That was his life too. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. He lived and breathed his job, and he was good at it. He’d never felt so...𝑠𝑖𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑟 to the man beside him. Maybe it was the liquor talking.
“Yeah actually, I would.” Flip finally answered, half a joke. ++
His eyes were captured by the swirling liquid, and both men watch Dan’s glass for a beat before Flip clears his throat again. “So what the fuck do you do when you’re not working?”
“I told you I’d drink it, not that it was my new favorite.” He sips the whiskey when it comes, a delectable burn down his throat as he swallows. The mixing of liquors is probably not his best idea, but he couldn’t give Dan the satisfaction of knowing he liked “that girly drink.”+
Another clear of his throat and he downs the rest of the glass, probably too quickly. When the bartender comes back over he makes a show of ordering a whiskey neat, side-eyeing Dan as he places the order.
The laugh Dan makes is foreign, nothing Flip's ever heard before and he barks out a laugh in response before he can hold it back. Realizing he was feeling camaraderie with the man and stopping mid laugh to clear his throat.
"I just meant I won't waste good liquor...that's all."+
His eyebrows raise in response and he hesitates. On the one hand...lie and hand over the drink he actually likes? Or tell the truth and be teased for making fun of the drink initially.
"Uh - no, it's fine, I can drink it. Get yourself another one." He stays seated, looking +
He waves the bartender down and points at Dan's glass, and shortly he has one too. He takes a sip and...refuses to admit the thing is damn delicious.
"Hm." Is about all he can muster for a minute. "Well, that's not the shittiest thing I've ever drank."
"It's not the vodka, it's the soda. And the lime. You can't just sip it straight?" He keeps watching this enigmatic man, this infuriating bastard as he polishes off his beer, trying to elicit a reaction.
"...soggy bread?" He looks at the other man's profile while he brings the bottle to his lips and takes a long pull.
"Fine. Get me one of those next. I'll try your girly drink."
He rolls his eyes but grabs the proffered beer when the bartender slides it across the tabletop. Sitting down he raises his eyebrows at Dan.
"Vodka tonic? A little girly, don't you think?" A smirk creeping across his face like he has a private joke.
