A major milestone is taking off at Coleman A. Young International Airport ✈️
Mayor Sheffield joined partners to celebrate the opening of the new AVFlight Fixed Base Operations facility — the first new facility to open at the airport in nearly 60 years.
This investment strengthens Detroit’s aviation infrastructure, supports economic growth, and marks the beginning of a new chapter for City Airport with more improvements on the horizon.
Mayor Sheffield took the stage at the Mackinac Policy Conference with a message rooted in Detroit's future: growth only matters when people can feel it in their everyday lives.
"Poverty elimination is a growth strategy."
From strengthening neighborhoods and expanding opportunity to investing in economic mobility and stability for working families, Mayor Sheffield shared a vision for a Detroit where progress reaches every block, every household, and every generation.
Because when we invest in people, Detroit continues to rise higher.
