I checked the comments and I saw several people say nothing was wrong with this approach.

As someone that has cold-messaged 500+ devs/project owners over the last few years (keeping the figure low btw), I’ll address this from a place of personal experience.

Is your approach good?
Not exactly, it can be better.

Can this exact approach get you a gig?
Possibly, but the chances are very, very limited.

Cold DMs already have low conversion these days, and this approach makes it even harder. Why? Because devs and project owners have become allergic to “I have a proposal for you”, those words are literally blacklisted in some project TGs. Most devs see that line and immediately assume it’s a copy-paste pitch they’ve seen hundreds of times - so they ignore, mute or even block.

In this case, I actually think the dev wanted to hear you out. His reply - “what’s it?”, showed interest. That was your opening to sell, not to reset the pitch.

That doesn’t mean a better approach guarantees the gig 100%, nothing does (except if you were referred by @elonmusk tho, lol), but it gives you a much better shot.

How this could’ve been done better?
In my own opinion, be direct, specific and contextual from the jump. Start with a greeting, show you’ve actually looked at the project, acknowledge effort, then present your offer with proof.

Example:
“Hey Harry, how’s it going man? I’ve been following your project for about an hour now (since you mentioned it’s a newly launched project). The narrative caught my attention on Axiom, and I saw you pushed it to an ATH of 50k mcap (using this fig as an instance), well done man.” - First message.

“It has dipped to 14k and I can see you’re actively pushing to reclaim ATH. I’m a growth strategist and I work with a few carefully selected memecoin influencers that drive real traction. We’ve worked with $BABY and $EXAMPLE, helping them grow from ~20k to 100k+ mcap. You’ve got a solid lore and narrative, I think we’d be a good fit and can help push this. What do you say Harry?” - Second message.

Some might say the message is too much. If you don’t want long messages, then have an X or TG with a visible track record you can point to with just short messages.

But if you don’t have that yet, your best shot is to be as expressive as you can. Break the message into parts if needed, this doesn’t mean you should write a full essay though, everything should be done appropriately.

Most importantly, don’t sound generic, make every approach personal to the dev and their projects.

Cold DMs are a numbers game, but context and clarity are what separate ignored messages from actual conversations in some cases, while in some, the dev might just not be interested, which is fine, you move on, they can sense desperation too.

now let’s talk about how to actually get the job fast

having the right skill set and knowing where to apply is one part of the puzzle but getting the gig is another

step 2: practical steps to get a web3 job (secret)

-> cold DMs: this is the art of sending your proposal directly to your potential employer

when you find companies that are hiring, don’t stop at applying through the job boards

this is why many people never land a job, because they get many applications each day and sometimes really on bots to filter

-> Do this: search for the project on X, identify their teams members, follow them, join their discord (if any), start pitching yourself strategically

identify their problem and propose a solution you can provide

make it short, don’t write a wall of text, writing some catchy first few lines will ensure your dm doesn’t get ignored

your cold DMs should be focused on getting their attention to respond, you can do this by letting them know you understand what they need

points out the problem > then propose a solution

always aim for brief, short and concise writing

keep it as short as 3 paragraphs, this is the magic number that has proven to work best for me

step 3: POW - proof of work

build a professional resume for yourself, this will help you stand out and showcase your skills

use Canva or Claude to generate a good looking resume

convert your resume to a portfolio website using AI and add the link on your bio to make it easy for potential employers

your X profile is also your biggest POW, share what you’re doing, your work, clients testimonials, add them to your highlight

be your biggest shiller - close mouths don’t get feed

step 4: Mindset

landing a web3 job is a numbers game, the more you apply, the higher your chances of success

do quite after applying for a short period, some people takes days before checking their DMs

if you want to get results, you must be persistent, remember you’re not the only one

if you send only 10 cold DMs a day
x7 (one week) = 70
x30 (one month) = 300

it will be close to impossible to apply to 300 just and not receive feedbacks
