Day 2/30 building in public 🚀

Office holiday today, so came to a coffee shop and got back to building Documind ☕️💻

Updates for today:

• Fixed the Form Fill page. Earlier it was asking users to upload a file before even opening the page

• Added pagination to the homepage

• Tweaked the UI a bit for a cleaner design

• Added ZIP download for batch transformations and compression

Small improvements, but the product is slowly starting to take shape.

Back to building.

💡 SQL vs NoSQL: What’s the actual difference?

As a backend developer, choosing the right database is one of the most important design decisions.

🗄️ SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Stores data in tables
• Structured schema
• Great for complex joins and relationships
• Strong transactional consistency

🍃 NoSQL (MongoDB)
• Stores data in flexible JSON-like documents
• Easier to evolve document structures
• Great for certain high-scale, flexible-data workloads
• Supports transactions too

⚡ Example:
Building a banking system? PostgreSQL is often a natural choice.

Building a product catalogue with varying attributes? MongoDB could be a great fit.

Neither is universally better. It depends on your data and access patterns.

Good backend engineering is about choosing the right tool, not following the hype.

🚀 Building in Public | Day 21/30

Major focus is now on the DocuMind desktop app! 💻

The idea is simple:

🔐 100% offline: Your files stay on your device.

💰 One-time payment: No monthly subscriptions.

⚡ Stability first: A lightweight app that works flawlessly.

📂 Beyond PDFs: Expanding into an all-in-one file toolkit.

Currently working on support for:

• 📄 PDFs & Documents
• 🖼️ Images
• 🎬 Videos
• 🎵 Audio
• 📊 Spreadsheets

The goal is no longer just a PDF editor, but an entire ecosystem for managing, editing and converting different file formats.

Still unsure whether to maintain the website or go all in on the desktop app.

For now, the app is my priority, and there’s a lot of refining going on!
