This is why context is important when discussing character design.
You have to think about the purpose of the visuals.
This isn’t about ‘who cares she isn’t real’, it’s about creating compelling characters whose design reflects their story and personality.
Angela wouldn’t want to be seen as attractive because she was sexually and physically abused by her father and brother. The key information is that her mother knew about it and said she deserved it for being a seductress. She wasn’t, she was a child.
Her whole design reflects this abuse from her covering as much of her skin as possible to the lack of makeup and even aged appearance in the original. She isn’t a character who wants to be sexualised and takes no ownership of it. Opposite of Maria.
Artists think about how we can represent a characters personality in how they look to give them depth.
Tbh making her fat would make sense as victims of sexual abuse have higher rates of obesity.
(Also she isn’t fat, it’s just an awkward screenshot with low fov)

Last year I was given the lead voice role for the player character in "Traveler's Refrain," a hand-painted "song-casting" action RPG, and it has been amazing seeing it all come together
