Light pollution is a serious threat to wildlife & people, affecting 96% of UK land which compromises health, wastes energy + disturbs tranquillity.
Find out more about how lighting affects different animals + how it impacts our health and well-being https://t.co/KTT3U1RSUK
We can all play our part to help reducing light pollution, here's how
Avoid using lighting when not essential
Reduce light spill e.g. shutting curtains at night
Ensure that lights are only on when required
Reduce brightness e.g. choosing bulbs with lower lumens
Use warm lighting
The Exmoor Dark Skies festival returns again this year and is already in full swing!
Check out what events are left https://t.co/JKRj2pqp5d
The festival comprises a host of events for families, amateur astronomers and everyone who feels inspired by the outdoors and the night.
It's #DevonDarkSkies fortnight and we're encouraging everyone to reduce their light pollution!
Watch our past webinar 'the importance of night sky and getting lighting right' that discusses the negative impacts lighting has on nocturnal wildlife & more https://t.co/Vq4z3t9AJN
What can we do to help nocturnal invertebrates during #DevonDarkSkies fortnight? Here are some tips...
- Close curtains and direct lights to avoid light spill
- Have log piles in your garden
- Motion sensor lights outside
