🎙️Reporter: Yaya, when you saw the news that Manchester City had been found guilty of 114 charges, what was your first reaction?

🗣️Yaya Touré: Honestly? I was not surprised.

I have been saying for years that there were things inside that club that people outside could never see.

When I saw the news, I just smiled and thought, “Now maybe people will understand why I spoke the way I did.”

🎙️Reporter: You have previously spoken very critically about Pep Guardiola. Do you still blame him for what happened between you and Manchester City?

🗣️Yaya Touré: Absolutely.

Pep changed everything.

When I arrived at Manchester City, I believed in the club. I believed in the people there. But after Pep came, the relationship changed completely.

He turned the situation against me and made it look like I was the problem.

People thought I was angry because I left Manchester City. No. I was angry because of how I was treated.

And I told people before: there are things happening at Manchester City that the public doesn’t know about.

🎙️Reporter: So when you saw the 114 charges, did you feel vindicated?

🗣️Yaya Touré: I don’t want to say “I told you so.”

But… I told you so.

For years, people laughed at me. They said Yaya was bitter. They said I was trying to damage Guardiola and Manchester City.

Now everyone is asking questions.

I am not celebrating what is happening to Manchester City. But I am saying this: sometimes the truth takes years to come out.

And Pep knows there are conversations between us that I have never made public.

Reporter: What do you mean by that?

Yaya Touré: I mean exactly what I said.

Something is somewhere.

And one day, people will understand why I was so angry.

🎙️Reporter: Do you think Manchester City should lose their titles?

🗣️Yaya Touré: If the charges are confirmed through the proper process, then football must accept the consequences.

City paid close to €250m but reached a secret agreement with Dortmund not to disclose the actual amount.

Reports suggest some journalists were paid to report £51m as the transfer fee.

🚨 More details from Premier League statement on Manchester City.

The independent Commission found that Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ commercial deals with a number of its sponsors during the period, which were part of a disguised funding scheme, whereby those companies were only required to pay a portion of the relevant sponsorship fees. The remainder was funded by Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd (ADUG), which owned the club. As part of the scheme, further ‘sham’ arrangements, funded by ADUG, were entered into to enable the club to record lower operating expenses than it actually incurred, as well as a ‘sham’ circular arrangement with Fordham, an entity that purchased the club’s players’ image rights, that was funded by ADUG.

The purpose of these schemes was found to have been to artificially inflate the club’s revenues, and reduce its costs, by more than £900 million during the affected period, to appear to comply with financial rules. The consequence of this, as the Commission found, was that the club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators. The Commission concluded that ‘by its conduct the club clearly intended to circumvent the PL Rules‘.

As a result, Manchester City failed to accurately report its income and expenditure for the purposes of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules and UEFA’s Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Rules. The Commission found that, had all of the relevant agreements been reported accurately in the club’s accounts, it would have been in breach of both the League’s and UEFA’s spending limits by a very substantial amount.

“Manchester City FC is both disappointed and surprised by the opinion of the Premier League Commission, that has been published today.

The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case. The Club will therefore be relentless, and where necessary proactive, in any and all appropriate regulatory and legal forums. 

The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements uncompleted.

Manchester City FC will now pursue the appeal avenues open to it, on the basis that the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact, and is unsafe. 

The Club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League Board and Executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.  

The Club is obviously restricted in what it can say further until all future proceedings are complete”.

🚨 BREAKING: The independent panel ruling on Manchester City’s 115 charges have found the club guilty on most of the charges.

Premier League clubs were updated on the case, but Manchester City are expected to appeal.

EPL are confident on a satisfactory conclusion but there is no guarantee the case is fully resolved imminently.

Sanctions range from suspended punishments or fines to points deductions and expulsion from the league. And punishments can be applied while an appeal is ongoing.

A City spokesman: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
