A Halifax man has been jailed for multiple sexual offences including rape.

Adil Zafar, 44 and from Halifax, was described as a danger to women by detectives after he was sentenced to 18 years in prison at Bradford Crown Court on Friday, May 9. He was found guilty by jury of three offences of rape, strangulation, sexual assault by penetration and coercive and controlling behaviour. He also admitted to a criminal damage offence.

These offences took place in Halifax in 2024 and was later reported to the police in June. An investigation was launched by the Calderdale Adult Safeguarding Unit following his. Zafar was arrested and charged in early July.

🚨 POLICE investigating after reports ASIAN MAN tried to GRAB YOUNG GIRL in Tonge Moor area of BOLTON.

Police are investigating after reports a man tried to 'grab' a young girl on a street. The girl is said to have been with a friend, also a young girl, when they were approached by a man riding what's been described as a child's bicycle.

The man is said to have 'attempted to engage them in an inappropriate manner and made an offensive comment' towards them.

He's then said to have tried to grab one of the girls. She is said to have ran away before the alarm was raised later.

An alert was shared by a school in the Tonge Moor area of Bolton. The incident is said by police to have been reported as having happened on Olaf Street in Tonge Moor.

Tonge Moor Academy posted details on its Facebook page, urging parents, carers and children to 'remain vigilant'.

The school said in the post: "We would like to make you aware of a concerning incident that recently occurred near Tonge Moor Park. Two young girls were approached by an adult male, described as Asian, wearing a black tracksuit and riding a small child's bicycle.

"The man attempted to engage them in an inappropriate manner and made an offensive comment. He then tried to grab one of the girls.

"The girls were able to run away and safely reach a nearby home. It has also been brought to our attention that similar incidents involving a man matching this description may have occurred previously in the area. We urge all parents and carers to remain vigilant and remind children to avoid speaking to strangers, and report anything suspicious immediately to a trusted adult or the authorities."

GMP confirmed the incident was reported at around 7.52am on Wednesday.

In a statement on Friday, a force spokesperson said: "We always take incidents like this, especially involving children, extremely seriously and are investigating – anyone with information should contact us quoting log 564-14/5/25.
