Here’s the grand finale: Part III: The Radical Portfolio
I guess i've been lucky to never experience what it feels like to be "deplatformed"- until now
like jeremy below, I was intrigued by @alexrkonrad article, and decided to give Spot a try. I ended up not really enjoying the experience, and and never booked an actual dining reservation. I think I cancelled it after a week or two and moved on.
then imagine by surprise that @resy shut down my account without any explanation. it was so odd that i didnt at first know what had happened, and upon emailing their team, I received a generic message that said I violated their T&S and that reinstatement of my account would be impossible, decision final.
ive been using resy and @AmericanExpress for 10/20+ years respectively. to basically sever a relationship with a customer without any warning and explanation felt so ridiculous that i surely thought i would eventually find a person to talk to and get it sorted out. well, i was very wrong. even after trying to explain, i just received the same canned botted message back (which is actually just comically ironic)
we all know restaurant reservations get botted, and its impossible for actual customers to get tables. we have all kinds of reservation trading platforms and things like dorsia that create an entire business model out of this industry issue. in the 20+ years ive lived in NYC, i really think that is has never been this bad. and its because AI is here - and ppl are botting. so its odd to me that Resy would instead of actually solving the problem, decide to ban actual customers who are trying to figure out how to navigate this ridiculous situation in the age of software and AI improvements with zero grace.
newsflash: agents are here to stay, whether you like or not. this problem will get worse than better. and resy will fail if they do not realize their business model is broken, and made worse by deplatforming longtime customers. AMEX will fail if they lose goodwill on innocuous violations that result in deplatforming from financial services.
but more importantly, arbitrary censorship of these kinds in the age of AI will lead to massive consumer revolts at a societal level. were already seeing how amazon is blocking certain infrastructures, and meta is trying own the stack in a closed vertical, and banks are already warning their customers agents are accessing their financial accounts. if you start arbitrarily banning REAL people because of the mistaken assumptions of bots, this will become an FTC issue. i know @benleventhal is not involved with resy anymore, but given his positive stance on the power of crypto and how hes thought through blackbird, i would imagine hed be appalled by this happening
anyway, a little rant out of frustration, in support of @jbeyda below, but also a bit of a warning to corporate america to treat your customers right. ill be fine. a restaurant reservation in NYC is a privilege! there are more serious issues at stake on a fundamental value here for what the customer/agent relationship is, and i hope more companies get it right. and @resy can choose to do the right thing and help me and jeremy out, or eventually gets a class action of sorts and well id imagine there will be no tears from either of us
The opportunity for crypto in the age of AI has never been higher
Security, privacy, identity, provenance, payments, coordination, compute
If AI makes intelligence abundant then value migrates to scarcity, and crypto is the only tech that can prove it
It’s time double down

I joined Spot after reading this article from @alexrkonrad. Less than a month later and having never booked a thing via Spot, I got banned from @resy.
I joined Resy in 2014, the year it launched. I got an email from Resy out of the blue this week saying the account is terminated and cannot be reinstated.
Customer for 12 years. Signed up for one wrong service and booted, no questions asked. Didn't matter that I didn't use it. What a joke
By the way, @resy youre still emailing me to leave reviews that I can’t from the restaurant that directly helped me make a reservation! Fix your tech stack if I’m banned so restaurants know on the other side that whatever you’re promoting as a valuable service is broken!
VP @JDVance said something interesting during his BTC 2025 Keynote–
He said that very smart people in Silicon Valley are focused on either Bitcoin and/or AI. But if there were one heuristic he could draw with reasonable confidence, he shared that Bitcoiners tend to lean right, while AI technologists tends to lean left. He said this made sense to him intuitively, because at the extreme core one party believes in privacy, and the other party believes in surveillance. And warned that eventually one will come for the other.
Zuck, as the most significant millennial founder/CEO of the most socially influential public tech company, is eventually going to have to decide which side he wants to be on. He can’t pretend to be on both sides forever. Because he can’t believe in both.
I’ll be watching closely. You should too.

The reported rebranding comes just months after a16z raised $2.2 billion for its fifth crypto fund.
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10.
Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years.
Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.
