Former Yellow Shirts Leader Plans Israeli Embassy Rally in ‘Take Back Thailand’ Campaign
Former media mogul and protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul plans to lead a rally outside the Israeli embassy as the first action in a campaign he calls “Take Back Our Thailand.” He will announce the rally date and further details at an 11 am press conference on September 7.
Sondhi said protesters would read and submit a letter to the Israeli ambassador. The broader campaign would target alleged illicit networks linked to Israeli, Chinese, Myanmar and Indian nationals, as well as Thai civil servants and politicians accused of enabling illegal activities.
Sondhi, a former leader of the yellow-shirt People’s Alliance for Democracy, said he was not seeking the government’s resignation but wanted the rule of law enforced and the country protected from illicit business interests. He called on supporters to join the campaign, saying he had decided to “take to the streets” and would not retreat.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand belonged to all Thai people and did not need to be reclaimed. He said people had a constitutional right to express themselves but any demonstration must comply with the law.
