FP-5 Flamingo strike on the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara, Russia: the onboard electronics assembly workshop was likely hit.
According to OSINT analysts from the Cyberboroshno channel, the missile likely struck Building 106A. This is where onboard electrical systems, instruments, and circuit boards are installed. Essentially, it is the carrier rocket’s nervous system: the control system, cable network, and instrument compartment. Without this stage, the rocket cannot be completed, even if the airframe and fuel tanks are already ready.
Building 106B is located nearby, where the final assembly of the rocket takes place. There is currently no information about damage to it.
Progress is the only facility in Russia where Soyuz-2 launch vehicles are serially assembled. Moscow uses them to launch satellites for its military orbital constellation, including the Liana electronic intelligence satellites and Persona optical reconnaissance satellites, as well as the Russian analogue of Starlink, Rassvet-4. There is no backup production facility in the country.
According to OSINT analysts, such a facility takes longer to restore than an ordinary production site. Soot and water damage following a fire mean not simply repairs, but the recertification of the production process - this is a matter of months, not weeks. On top of that, there are sanctions: the onboard electronics of Soyuz rockets rely on imported components that are now difficult to procure.
The extent of the damage is being assessed using satellite imagery.
