One thing I have noticed is how selectively people apply their principles.

The moment someone calls another person “olodo,” they’ve already made a judgment. They’ve decided that intelligence is a legitimate basis for looking down on another human being. Hardly anyone objects to that part.

The response comes: “I’m richer than you.” Then, almost immediately, the conversation changes. Suddenly we’re told money doesn’t define a person, money isn’t everything, and wealth shouldn’t be used to measure people.

I have always wondered why that standard only appears after money enters the conversation.

If wealth is an invalid basis for superiority, why is intelligence treated as a valid one? Who decided that being intellectually gifted gives someone a licence to speak from a higher pedestal?

Intelligence, wealth, beauty, athletic ability, charisma and creativity are all advantages. However, none of these factors define a person’s inherent worth.

What I find interesting is that society has made one form of elitism socially acceptable while treating another as vulgar. Mocking someone for being “olodo” is often seen as fair game because intelligence carries social prestige. Respond with your financial success, and suddenly everyone becomes uncomfortable with status comparisons.

Most of you people don’t reject hierarchy; you simply reject the hierarchies where you rank lower and defend those where you rank higher. Someone proud of their intellect might happily use it as a benchmark until someone else offers a different one that suits them better.

I don’t think either standard should determine a person’s value. My issue is with pretending one is morally acceptable while the other is somehow beneath civilised conversation.🤷‍♂️
