Sharing the worst experience with the customs at Ahmedabad International airport
1. I landed on Ahmedabad International airport from DXB, on 11th July 2024, with my belongings and was intercepted by customs and they confiscated my belongings. My belongings consisted of 150g of Gold and 3 iphones. Out of the 150g Gold, the 50g "kada" was already bought by me from India back when i came to Dubai in March, 2024. Also, out of the 3 Iphones confiscated, 1 was my personal phone itself. And as per the customs policies, we are allowed to have 1 extra phone without any customs duty on it. Hence, the 50g Gold and the 2 Iphones didn't call for any customs duty as all as per the law. The rest of the belongings, 2x50g Gold chains and 1 Iphone, we proposed to pay the 10% customs duty as per the law but the custom officers who had intercepted were not ready to listen to a single thing I had to say. Instead, they demonstrated their hooliganism and threatened to charge me for fake allegations which were completely irrelevant to my case. Outing the thugs here, Abhishek Maniar, Chandra Prakash Chandani and Dheeraj Solanki. They in turn demanded to pay a 40-44% duty on the confiscated items which actually amounts to INR 5 Lakhs(attached the receipt for the same) and made me sign it against my will even though the charges are illicit.
I really want my belongings back and have been requesting to find a middle ground for the same, even though most of it is unjust, but they are not ready to hear any plea at all. Purposely denying all the requests and refraining to meet in the office. The is literally unqualified as per the law and soon I will have to even start bearing the locker charges on top of everything. They just want me to pay the unreasonable duty they levied on the items and be done with it. I have actually bought the items with my hard earned money and I can't afford to pay such hefty and illicit fine on these.
One interesting thing, at the time of confiscation, they even agreed upon the re-export of the items as it should be allowed but after that day, they are denying all ground of re-export as well even after requesting and sending all the legal documents/tickets required for it.
Additionally, now on re-export of the items which should ideally be free of cost as I have to take my belongings back to Dubai, I am being asked to pay absurd "fees" of INR 3L to the authorities mainly Mr. Chandraprakash Chandani, Dheeraj Solanki and Abhishek Maniar. This is a pure case of bribery as he couldn't even explain what these charges are for.
Completely blown by how this corrupt system low-key harasses us in unprecedented and unpredictable ways.
Have lost the faith in this system which boasts of itself to be guarded by the laws.
Calling out the authorities so that someone actually hears and assists on this pressing situation.
