Wetlands are nature's multifunctional ecosystems.

Valuing, conserving, restoring and financing wetlands is no longer optional – it is essential to securing the foundations of life on earth.

Fascinating read👇🏼

Could these techniques be incorporated into carpentry and boatbuilding curricula in the Maldives? Or are they already?

We need to preserve this knowledge before it disappears.

[Mohamed Nasheed @MohamedNasheed]

Early Maldivian boat builders employed a sophisticated method known as stellar proportional measurement, a subset of astronomical proportional design. Within this archaic system, celestial bodies, particularly fixed stars served as reference points for determining the geometric proportions of a vessel. Builders relied on star positions, angular relationships between stars and the horizon, and seasonal star paths to establish length ratios, hull curvature, keel alignment, and overall symmetry.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has highlighted the importance of science, collaboration and sustainable practices in promoting healthier lives, in a message shared to mark World Health Day.

https://t.co/08lnJrIzbb

[Dr Mohamed Muizzu @MMuizzu]

This World Health Day, let us reaffirm the importance of scientific collaboration in protecting global health. Science-led approaches must drive the One Health initiative, with greater investment in medical research and stronger multilateral cooperation to ensure that health policies and interventions are firmly grounded in proven science.

In the Maldives, we have fostered a culture where scientific knowledge shapes health strategies. We are expanding digital health, integrating health information systems, promoting healthy lifestyles and early detection, and ensuring effective curative services.

On this special day, I convey greetings and best wishes to everyone working tirelessly to keep our communities healthy and hopeful. Let us commit to working "Together for Health, and to Stand with Science". "

The biggest instrument of discrimination that successive governments have weaponized is our identity; those that come from specific families and islands receive preferential access to resources.
