Capt Bhardwaj went a little further than he should have, but it's silly at worst. There's really no need to make a mountain out of a molehill.
The young Captain had just earned his wings as a combat helicopter pilot after rigorous training. In a burst of emotion after the Passing Out Parade, he proposed to his girlfriend. It happened in uniform, with a helicopter in the backdrop and family/colleagues cheering.

Romantic and human- Absolutely.
But also- inappropriate in terms of protocol and discipline.

The Army quite rightly is displeased. However, this will likely end with an interview with the boss without the chair and the tea. He would be given a rap on the knuckles- and that should be it.

Remember- we are willing to send our young into the harm’s way without hesitation- in return, we should be willing to accommodate a bit of antics.

Discipline is the spine of the Army, while the human spirit is its soul. When troops storm the gates of hell- they are not driven by the discipline rather the spirit.
A dash of personality doesn’t weaken the force- it keeps it alive. I am not sure about the Army, but in the Air Force young officers have gotten away with much worse.

Capt Bhardwaj will almost certainly take the rap on the knuckles, in the right spirits, learn the lesson, and go on to fly with distinction.

Let’s not overdo the outrage- our Army can handle a romantic moment.

She says, “We recently played in the Under-16 SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) tournament in 2024, where we finished as runners-up…we also competed in the Under-17 tournament in Bhutan, where we emerged as champions. We played in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) tournament in Kyrgyzstan, and we successfully qualified for the next stage. The qualifying round then took place in China. We travelled there to compete for a spot in the World Cup, and we managed to reach the quarter-finals…I am an all-rounder, but I adapt my role according to the situation…I have loved playing football since my childhood. I used to watch famous players on TV, and seeing them play sparked a great sense of excitement and ambition within me…my mother initially tried to dissuade me, warning that I might get injured…I would wake up at 4:00 am every morning to go and practice…I was selected to represent India…I am currently training to secure a spot in the Under-19 senior team…my goal is to bring glory to my country, and prepare for the World Cup.”

China imposed sanctions on Marco Rubio twice in 2020. Today Rubio became the first sanctioned US Secretary of State to enter Beijing. He boarded Air Force One in the exact Nike Tech Fleece Maduro wore during his January capture. The White House calls it "Venezuela Nike Tech."

China imposed sanctions on then-Senator Marco Rubio in July and August 2020 in retaliation for his legislation on Hong Kong autonomy and Uyghur human rights. Rubio, a Cuban-American anti-communist, was the key author of congressional legislation imposing sanctions on China over alleged Uyghur forced labor. The Chinese sanctions included a travel ban and an asset freeze. They were never lifted. Rubio was confirmed as Secretary of State in January 2025. The South China Morning Post headlined Tuesday May 12: "Trump visit sees Marco Rubio become first sanctioned US secretary of state to visit China."

Reuters and AFP reported that Beijing granted Rubio entry through a name transliteration workaround. Chinese authorities altered the first character of Rubio's name from 卢 to 鲁, both pronounced "lu" with different tones and meanings. The change appeared in a Ministry of Foreign Affairs news release dated January 16, 2025, four days before Rubio took office. Two diplomats told AFP the change was an immediate workaround since Rubio was banned under the old spelling. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said "what was more important was his English name."

On Air Force One Rubio appeared in a gray Nike Tech Fleece tracksuit. White House communications director Steven Cheung posted the Air Force One photograph and tagged it "Secretary Rubio rocking the Nike Tech 'Venezuela.'" The post went viral. Side-by-side Rubio-Maduro photographs spread across X within hours.

Five months ago US forces captured Maduro in Caracas. Today Rubio enters the country that sanctioned him wearing Maduro's exact outfit. Rubio's anti-communist arc runs Cuba to Venezuela to China. The White House sold the photograph as "Venezuela Nike Tech." Diplomacy has become meme warfare. The summit agenda runs Taiwan, Iran, AI chips, rare earths, farm goods, and Boeing aircraft. Xi receives a delegation that includes the man China legally banned. The umbrella has holes. The protocols have rewrites. The Maduro tracksuit is the negotiating chip.
