Shocking to read about the frequency of abuse and neglect in #disability group homes in Australia. Glad to publish an article in @ConversationEDU about new models and solutions that have the potential to transform disability #housing.
Young people in aged care is absolutely a solvable problem We have failed YPIRAC by not hitting 2022 targets Let's implement the #NDIA#health & #housing systems change to hit 2025 #YPIRAC targets to stop young people with #disability from being forced to live in once and for all
Great to have Minister @billshortenmp leadership on getting people with disability out of hospital. Clear targets for NDIA timeframes are essential - they are absolutely achievable. Delegating authority to make decisions at the grassroots is smart - cuts through the red tape.
In 2021 governments across the country agreed to make changes to the #NationalConstructionCode so that new Australian homes were #accessible.
We'll be watching the #BuildingMinisters Meeting intently to ensure every government implements the changes as agreed.

So very proud of Participant Led Videos - an evidence based approach to building the capacity of people with #Disability with cognitive and communications challenges to take charge of their lives and provide direction to disability support workers
Great to see the issue of #NDIS participants stuck in hospital get the attention it deserves in the media this week. Over 1,430 NDIS participants sitting in hospital beds across Australia while there are over 1,000 vacancies in brand new disability housing
Great start @billshortenmp & Ministers 1,100 NDIS participants stuck in hospital for many months is a terrible waste of health resources during a pandemic Look forward to some evidence based joint solutions, better outcomes for #PWD and a stop to young people going to aged care
My first Disability Reform Ministers Meeting since becoming Minister for the NDIS. A committed and passionate group of people who want to make sure that the NDIS and NDS is working for those who need it. Media release: https://t.co/y5JZdpvh3P. Communique: https://t.co/gysypVMhhh
I recently sat down for in-depth discussion with @drgeorgethecrip for his Reasonable and Necessary podcast about restoring trust in the #NDIS , which is broken. We need to get the NDIS back to its original objective and end the bureaucratic nightmare. https://t.co/uEpuo9zWoo
"Up to two-thirds of #Disability housing in Australia is not fit for purpose and does not meet current standards or foster independence". @latrobe researchers @DiWinkler and Jacinta Douglas explain what specialist housing can do in @ConversationEDU: https://t.co/ovhOdHYAEt
Australians with disability wait months to get NDIS funding to access appropriate housing.
For senior Australians in hospital, it takes just a few days to receive funding approval for aged care.
This is a solvable problem.

Feeling all the feels tonight with the national construction code changes. This was one of the last big things that the fab Sue Salthouse campaigned for. She'd be so stoked to see it become reality.
Thanks @RebeccaVassarot
Today we have delivered on a commitment to ensure more accessible housing and a decent and accessible home for people in Australia. Incredibly proud to have been part of this https://t.co/c8K69tZ0v5
