The RACGP is calling for free Meningococcal B vaccines for children aged 2 and under and teens 15-19. Parents shouldn’t have to live in fear of this rare but deadly disease. We have a safe and effective vaccine – it just needs to be accessible for those most at risk.
Breasts are not taps. Lactation occurs through a finely coordinated series of feedback loops. What's not even shown in this diagram is descending signals from the higher brain, acting through the hypothalamus; stress and anxiety are strong inhibitors. #FedIsBest#MedTwitter
Another day, another healthcare 'bullying' module and another vignette conveniently equating surgeons and bullies.
A plea to all educators- EVERY specialty has a bullying problem and we will not adequately address it until we stop portraying 'someone else'.🙏

The best place to relax is near water.
After just 2 minutes of viewing water outdoors, blood pressure and heart rate drop. It's more calming to look at a lake, pool, or stream than trees or grass.
Beaches are popular for a reason. Wider bodies of water bring more tranquility.
>2 years into GP training, all hospital jobs completed, and I’ve been back in general practice since November
I’m astounded at the amount of medicine I’ve seen in these last 6 mo.
Like Incredible amounts.
And I absolutely love it.
I have found my *home* in general practice… 1/
The RCOG has published a new Green-top Guideline on the investigation and care of a small-for-gestational-age fetus and a growth restricted fetus. (1/2)
Just seen this article @smh
Is this comment a joke?
“Michelle Leech, the Medical Deans Australia and New Zealand president, suggested student and junior doctors could help staff the new clinics, helping fill potential shortages and gain vital experience along the way”
I have medical students every 5 weeks and rarely do they get a diagnosis correct or have an ability to form a valid differential, management plan, examination or investigation/interpretation pathway.
And you want to let them loose in people acutely unwell.
No.
This is not helpful and a half cooked history, a sporadic differential and a do every single blood test is not the answer.
They are unqualified
General practice is an AHPRA registered specialty
Stop dumbing it down as intern or basic level medicine, this view is ignorant, unsupportive and fosters the idea these patients are basic/easy to manage.
We are specialists.
This is amazing! And a good reminder you don't need to be in lycra or 'sportswear'. Or, indeed, limit resistance training to the gym. Start where you are, with what you have, in whatever way feels comfortable. Even a can of baked beans in each hand and a set of stairs! 🤗💪
Thinking of those for whom today is difficult:
People who have had trouble becoming mums when it's all they want
Mums who have lost their children, particularly in Gaza
People who have a complicated relationship with the word 'mum'
❤️
Dr Sarah Giutronich, Chair of Paeds surgery training board, challenges us to think about 'attrition'- do we select the wrong trainees, or did we destroy the right trainees? We need to consider intersectionality and a wider range of diversities, including neurodiversity. #RACS24
Not sure this game should have been played, but it was & the grief & shock was palpable. I hope the @afl#media keep that in mind this week & pls put mental health over clickbait @freodockers@GWSGIANTS#AFLFreoSwans

So deadly to see this, for 25 years, Cape York women had to travel 800km to give birth. Birthing on Country is returning to Weipa region community... https://t.co/25yF6uyON2
I could cry 😭
The Commonwealth Government has officially paid off the remainder of my HECS debt! Over $15,000 wiped 😭❤️🙏🏻
Today I feel valued. Today I’ve added another reason for our next generation to choose Rural.

'Funny isn't it, how long we've adhered to the stereotype of knitters as doddery, sweet grandmothers, as though the activity itself was a sign of ageing, dismissed as useless frippery and distraction – not what it actually is, which is useful and mindful.'
#GenderBias eh? 👀
