Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that he is prepared to risk his life to protect his votes in the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the statement on Thursday at a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he urged Nigerians to prevent a repeat of what he described as the “irregularities” witnessed during the 2023 general election.

Speaking at the event tagged “Obi Talks Nigeria,” Obi said those planning to manipulate the 2027 election would not have an easy time.

“Nobody will intimidate us again at the polling booth. If you get to any polling booth today, the highest number of officials you see is five. The average number of voters is 40 to 50. There is no way five people will intimidate 50 people.”

“This time all of us will rescue our country. Somebody said, ‘We are ready to d+e.’ Let me tell you, I’m ready to d+e too.

“We will make sure we have coordination to ensure that such intimidation does not arise. Yes, they will try to m@nipulate the IReV. But let me tell you, it will not be easy this time,” he said.

“There will be so many IReVs this time. If there is a network glitch, we will give them another one that has no glitch,” he added.

“By allowing them to continue, that glitch will glitch our lives. That is what we are suffering today,” Obi said.

Also speaking, NDC Vice Presidential Candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso urged Nigerians not to repeat past mistakes in choosing leaders.

“I believe that Nigerians must not make mistakes again. This is the time to get it right. And anything to the contrary, I believe people, if they make a mistake, certainly people will regret making that mistake. Because it will be too costly for the people and the country.”

“Jonathan was the president, the sitting president lost the election. I’ve given you an example, especially those who think because they have over 30 governors, they cannot lose the election. That was a very big mistake,” he said.

It troubles me as I look into our past and discover that most traitors needed the backing of the West to overthrow/eliminate a good African leader.

Your statement that “we will remove” local government chairmen who do not work for APC is deeply troubling.

When you say “we,” who exactly do you mean? You, your party, or some political cabal that believes it has the power to determine who remains in office?

Let us be clear: a democratically elected local government chairman is not an APC appointee. His mandate comes from the people. The Supreme Court’s landmark judgment of July 11, 2024, affirmed that democratically elected local government councils cannot simply be dissolved or their elected officials removed at the whim of state authorities. Where there is a lawful basis for removal, due process must be followed—not political retaliation.

If a chairman has failed the people, let the people decide at the ballot. If he has committed an offence warranting removal, follow the law.

But threatening to remove an elected official because he does not work for your party raises a fundamental question: were these chairmen elected to serve the people, or to serve APC?

Political parties contest elections to win power, not to own government institutions. When political loyalty becomes a condition for remaining in office, that is not democracy; it is political patronage.

Nigeria does not belong to APC. Government does not belong to APC. The mandate belongs to the people.

I know this doctor that stammers. When he goes for interview, he sees his colleague spend up to 30 mins, but his interviews doesn't go past 5 mins. He could tell they just want to dismiss him and move to the next person.

The doctor went for his PLAB exam in England. A day was set aside for doctors with speech difficulty. They were given extra time and asked if the time would be enough for them. He passed the PLAB. In Nigeria, when he takes exam, he has to finish within the alloted time given to people without difficulty.

How do we expect perfection from people who are already with personal difficulties? We need to imbibe grace as a people.
