What I see a lot in trans-id people is a lack of insight into shame and guilt. And zero gratitude.
These are basic skills we have somehow absolved them from.
"Harm, in medicine, used to mean injury you could describe: a damaged organ, a missed diagnosis, a drug that failed its trial. Feelings matter, and cruelty in the consulting room is unprofessional.
"But if 'harm' includes the discomfort of hearing that a favoured protocol rests on weak evidence, then the regulator has annexed the ordinary business of science. New ideas always offend someone who has invested in the old ones."

"Le titre de cette chronique est un emprunt au sociologue américain Musa al-Gharbi, qui a publié en 2024 un essai du même nom. Il met en lumière les contradictions d’une élite intellectuelle qui se dit l’alliée des féministes, des antiracistes, etc., alors que par ses actions, soutient-il, elle perpétue une hiérarchie sociale qui la privilégie. De là à les traiter d’hypocrites, il n’y a qu’un pas."

The Adolescent and Young Adult Gender Dysphoria Outcomes Study (AYAGDOS) is open and seeking volunteers for a research study about gender dysphoric youth (13-25 years of age). Detransitioners and Desisters are eligible if they experience gender dysphoria. Participation requires completion of an Internet survey, is strictly voluntary, and will not be compensated. The Investigators are J. Michael Bailey (PrincipalInvestigator); Lisa Littman (Principal Investigator); and Kenneth J. Zucker (Co- Investigator). The Northwestern University IRB Study Number is STU00215665 and the BRANY IRB Study Number is 22-076-1188. "Many high-quality independent systematic reviews reached the conclusion that there is no reliable evidence for the MH benefits of hormones & surgeries...Medical ethics dictates that we are honest with other professionals and the public about evidence."

WPATH is walking back its claim that SOC8 is actually a standard of care for pediatric gender medicine. It is time for the @CanPaedSociety to discard its position statment on trans and gender diverse youth, which relies on WPATH, and create real evidence-based guidance.
WPATH now admits that youth gender medicine is marked by "medical and scientific uncertainty" with 2 alternative paths to care for gender-dysphoric youth: WPATH's medicalized vs the Cass-aligned non-invasive one.
Yet for 10+ years, doctors have been told WPATH's is the only way.
Now imagine if Coke tells parents “if you don’t drink their products kids will die of dehydration” or “you are seriously harming your kids’ health if you don’t give them pop.” FTC will surely act and it is stupid for companies to invoke first amendment to defend their falsehood.
It's possible that WPATH just gave up the game.
If its recommendations are merely one "opinion" in a legitimate debate defined by "uncertainty," and if doctors should judge independently whether to follow them, why should insurers follow them? Why should judges defer to them as the accepted standard of care? Why should other medical groups endorse or at least not oppose them?
It's possible the FTC just got its win, regardless of how this case turns out.
Why would WPATH do this? Why would they throw trans-identified patients under the bus (as they see it)? Perhaps to save their own skin?
WPATH claims it is “contributing to [medical] debate.” But as someone “contributing to the debate” from the opposite side, I cannot make sense of my experiences if this is merely a debate.
Why do my coauthors, I, and many others like us need to overcome anxiety, and, for some, even fear, to put our names forward? Why do we need to clear so many hurdles, including some that we would call censorship? Why do we need to face being named and shamed after publishing papers that disagree with WPATH?
WPATH may not be directly involved in these actions. But WPATH is not merely contributing to a debate. WPATH is promoting a model, and many medical organizations and activist groups have bought into it. When faced with challenges, they either remain silent about the lack of evidence supporting the recommendations or defend the model vigorously.
The fact is that this “opinion” of WPATH is perceived and defended as a standard of care. This fact invites examination. For scientists, the examination is whether this standard of care is supported by evidence (no, it isn’t). For public authorities, the examination is whether WPATH has been dishonest in making these recommendations and promoting this model of care to a degree that crosses the threshold of fraud.
There is a distinction between defending a professional body’s freedom of expression and holding a professional body accountable for the consequences of making false claims.
