Washington Mardi Gras History: 1975 — U.S. Senator Russell Long, after initially being blocked by the Secret Service because he was in full costume and wearing a mask, dances with First Lady Betty Ford during Saturday’s ball. In order to appease Mrs. Ford’s protectors and have her join him on the dance floor, Senator Long had to remove his mask, breaking a Krewe rule he had actually put in place, and incurred a $50 fine in the process. #LaGov #LaLege
Beautiful prayer of St. John Neumann: “As I rise, Lord, let your mercy awaken me from the darkness of sin. From this day forward, I will begin a new life. With your grace, I will be patient, diligent, and devout. Show me the occasions in which I may practice my good resolutions.”
May our Blessed Mother, patroness of the United States, help us seek holiness and the courage to say yes to God as she said yes more than 2,000 years ago. Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for us.

This is how reconciliation begins: "Francis’ apology on Monday is less an acknowledgment of mistakes and more a reflection on a mindset which, in more places than just Canada, came to define institutions it supported."

I have grown weary of the witless canard that those who oppose a manifest grave evil against vulnerable people are otherwise uniformly selfish jerks who hate the poor.
So many messages telling those who are struggling to reach out. Fair enough, but part of what depression does is mutes your ability to reach. If you are NOT depressed & you see someone struggling, YOU reach out. If you don’t see someone who used to be around, YOU reach out.
Many U.S. veterans have built companies inspired by their combat experiences, calibrating their enterprises to address social or economic issues in the countries where they served.

Historical note: Last time a pope consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart in wartime was October 31, 1942. In 3 weeks afterward, Germans lost at El Alamein and the tide turned at Stalingrad. So pray for peace today, but it's ok to pray for Ukrainian military success too.
