Why Dr Matiang’i Could Change Kenya’s Fight Against Corruption

Corruption remains a major obstacle to Kenya’s development, wasting public resources, weakening institutions and denying citizens quality services.

Dr Fred Matiang’i has pledged to fight corruption through firm leadership and enforcement of existing laws. He has also stated that he and his children would not do business with the government if he became president, a commitment aimed at preventing conflicts of interest.

His record in public service, particularly his efforts to curb examination malpractice, provides a basis for examining his emphasis on discipline and accountability. He argues that Kenya needs leaders who enforce the law rather than simply establish more institutions.
