Why I've lost trust in most all intellectuals and the institutions that purport to represent them: they have had almost nothing to say (except by way of support) of the entire Covid response.
I just cannot take these people seriously now or ever. This goes for many supposedly great minds I once respected.
It should be obvious by now that this was and is probably the most important shift in the historical narrative In decades if not hundreds of years.
Why the silence about the following?
* A entire generation was denied actual eduction
* The response showed public would mostly believe any absurdity, even that masks were protective against microbial infection and that standing far apart from people was the key to health
* Governments canceled religious holidays with two thousands years of tradition and got away with it
* A grass-roots movement would rise up among us to defend and enforce preposterous claims including that hiding under the sofa would cause a respiratory infection to go away
* Governments the world over learned that they could perhaps spend without limit, run up debt, and inflate away the obligations
* Industry realized there were far more profits in panic and mandates than in normal marketing
* The ruling class discerned that they could get away with endless abuse of the people provided it was pushed as public health
* The vaccine industry realized that no lie was beyond plausibility even when they were caught and even when their product caused vast injury and death
* Media was revealed to be nothing other than a deep-state megaphone
* Academia proved itself to be mostly useless
Any actual intellectual worth his salt would have been sounding alarms throughout this amazing fiasco. Some have. Very few, mostly associated with new institutions that are displacing the old failed establishment. Legacy thinkers have generally pretended that none of this happened.
Remember these days: an entire generation of vaunted intellectuals is hereby discredited, revealed as sycophants, and otherwise exposed as having chosen the comforts of social position and financial stability over truth.
@elonmusk@GadSaad@NobelPrize Mr. Gad can you chill on this type of reposting?
I admire your intelligence and respect your opinions. However, it seems to me that you are leaning a bit too much on bringing to light this nonsense. Contributing to nonsense. Elon falling for it.
@DAcemogluMIT At this point I am just going to start blocking this type of nonsense. A person who makes this type of stupid comments just need a life. Tired if reading provoking comments. Getting tired too of people who repost this type of nonsense. Manipulation, just that
Hector lay down and slept in the open field on Wednesday, flat out on his side in the sun with his legs stretched and his eye shut, and the man who used to ride him stood at the gate and could not speak for a minute.
You have to know what a parade horse is to understand the size of this. Hector spent seventeen years as a Cavalry Black, and a horse on ceremonial duty learns that the world is bands and crowds and gunfire and flags coming at him from every side, and that his job is to carry all of it without moving a muscle he was not told to move. He learned to hold. He learned that lying down in the open, defenceless, eye shut, is the one thing a prey animal never does unless it is certain, deep in the old wiring, that nothing is coming.
For his first two years in the field he did not lie down like that. He dozed standing, the way a horse dozes when the horse is still, somewhere in its own head, on duty.
The man who groomed him and rode him through all those years still comes. Not once, as a neat ending. Regularly, whenever the leave and the long drive allow, which is more often than a busy man has any reason to manage. He brings nothing. He stands at the gate. Sometimes Hector comes over and sometimes he does not.
On Wednesday the man arrived to find his horse asleep on the ground in the sunshine, guarded by a small grey donkey who had assessed the field, found it acceptable, and taken up the watch so that the big soft veteran beside him did not have to.
The man leaned on the gate.
Nelson looked at the man.
Nelson did not raise the alarm, because there was, in Nelson's considered assessment, nothing here worth waking a tired horse for.
Riding in my Tesla Y Juniper, just cruising, when a Tesla S rolled up. Suddenly my selfโdriving Y sped up like it was trying to keep pace. For a second I wondered if my car was acting like a competitive human.
I asked Grok, cleared things up for me. Riding my beautiful Tesla is so fun ๐
Raccoons aren't bad. They're doing a job that you need done.
A raccoon waddling around your neighborhood at night is hunting grubs, the larvae of invasive Japanese beetles and other beetles that destroy grass from the roots up. Their front paws are sensitive enough to detect grubs several inches underground.
A single raccoon can consume hundreds in a night, which is more effective grub control than most commercial poisons.
They also eat mice and rats and are prey for owls, coyotes, and wolves. Your neighborhood raccoon is smack dab in the middle of the food web, and it's an important link in the chain.
The problems people have with raccoons are almost always a secured-food problem, not a raccoon problem. An open trash can, accessible pet food, a compost bin with meat scraps, an unsecured chicken coop. Fix the access and the conflict largely resolves itself.
Love your local raccoons.
@elonmusk@PeterSweden7 It is incredible, return to your country of origin. Slap on the wrist, the creep got away with rape. Should get a death penalty. Why are they so untouchable that they just return home ? These perverts live in a nattion that has no jurisdiction over them ๐ค
To make clear how critical this right is, think about it this way: if you cannot go to school, get a job, enter public spaces, or utilize public transportation or commercial airlines if you refuse a medical procedure the government requires, then you basically have no rights. You become a prisoner in your own home, unable to get an education, earn a living, or participate in civil society. That is why the right to choose whether to get a medical procedure, without any coercion, is a fundamental right.
@elonmusk My beautiful Tesla Y Juniper got its first wheel scratch โน๏ธ. Three months old, letting it do its own driving everything good. I drove it, wheel against the side walk ๐
@LeftyWinter Ok, with all the information provided, are you going to do research to understand how you might need to be a bit flexible about your absolute statement, or are you going to keep up with negative energy messing your life views ๐ค
The box turtle crossing your yard this morning may have been crossing that same ground before you were born.
Eastern box turtles can live over a century. Individuals have been documented at 120 years. And unlike most animals, they don't use that time to go anywhere. A box turtle may spend its entire life within 250 yards of the nest it hatched from.
It knows every log, every seep, every patch of shade in that radius the way you know your own kitchen.
This is why relocating one is such a serious problem. Move a box turtle a mile down the road and it will spend the rest of its life trying to walk home, crossing roads it doesn't know, exposed in territory it's never mapped. The shell protects it from predators. Nothing protects it from not knowing where it is.
The turtle in your yard isn't passing through. It lives there, in the same specific place it has always lived, doing the slow, methodical work of being a box turtle: eating mushrooms and berries and earthworms, dispersing seeds, getting through another season.
If it's large and worn-looking, with a shell that's gone dark and scratched with years, it may have been working that same patch of ground since before your neighborhood had a name.
Leave it where it is, chances are, it was there first.
