POLICE OFFICER APPEARS IN COURT ON MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES
A police officer, Detective Constable Elias Moeketsi Pinkoane (34), attached to the Orange Farm Police Station, appeared before the Sebokeng Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder, attempted murder, handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and discharging a firearm in a public place.
It is alleged that on the morning of 12 July 2026, Pinkoane went to BK Lifestyle in Sebokeng to purchase chicken gizzards.
Upon arrival, he was informed that the chicken gizzards had been sold out.
He allegedly asked the vendor who had purchased the last portion, and the vendor pointed out a customer.
The accused then approached the customer, and an argument ensued between the two men.
During the altercation, the customer reportedly offered the accused one skewer of chicken gizzards.
However, the accused allegedly demanded additional portions for his girlfriend, which the customer refused.
It is further alleged that the accused then walked to a state vehicle, retrieved a firearm through the vehicle window, and opened fire in the direction of the customer and several other people standing nearby before fleeing the scene.
Police officers who were patrolling the area responded to the incident. The victim’s brother was declared dead at the scene, while other victims who sustained injuries were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Later that same day, the accused was arrested at his place of residence.
The matter was postponed to 20 July 2026 to allow the accused an opportunity to appoint legal representation and to bring a formal Schedule 6 bail application.
