@BlkLbl3000@Okla_Hombre@bigbabolat "We're at a disadvantage to you there - since we actually tend to live in the same house with our kids" that line put you to sleep 😴
@Animemaster51@Alexx21Young@capthedon PS4 repairs and disc fixes aren’t free or easy for everyone, and rot might be slow but it still happens over time + storage conditions matter. Future consoles dropping disc drives is the bigger issue your physical games become paperweights eventually.
@Animemaster51@Alexx21Young@capthedon You don’t fully “own” or do whatever you want with physical either — EULAs still apply and most games need patches. Digital is simpler and more reliable for the way people actually play now.
@Animemaster51@Alexx21Young@capthedon Digital is already backed up on Sony’s servers — you can officially redownload it anytime. No hardware worries or shady rips needed. Physical still has more long-term headaches.
@Animemaster51@Alexx21Young@capthedon Putting the disc in a box doesn’t stop scratches, rot, or damage over time dude. And “backing up” physical discs usually means ripping them, which most people don’t do (and isn’t exactly legal).
@Originul_@capthedon Digital at least gives you easy redownloads while supported. It's not perfect but way more convenient for the majority. The industry’s heading there regardless.
@Originul_@capthedon Yeah everything has risks, including forgetting passwords or account issues. But physical adds extra ones like disc rot, scratches, and the fact that future consoles will drop disc drives completely (making your collection unplayable).
@NotBillBlack@Alexx21Young@capthedon Fair point on store closures like PS3 and Vita, that does suck when it happens. But physical isn't bulletproof either future consoles are gonna drop disc drives completely, and your old discs become useless without the right hardware anyway.
@Alexx21Young@capthedon But not everyone takes care of their stuff like that, and even mint discs can still rot or get damaged over the years no matter what. Digital just removes that risk completely it's on your account so you can always redownload it.
Digital lives on your PSN account. You can redownload it on any console whenever you want. No failing plastic, no coaster problems, no degradation. It's more reliable ownership and way less hassle day to day. Physical had its time but it's outdated now.

People are overreacting to Sony getting rid of physical discs. It's not some big tragedy. Discs scratch, rot after a few years, get lost, or just stop working one day — then your "owned" game is gone.
@capthedon Plus the whole "I can play it offline forever with no internet" argument doesn't really hold up anymore. Most games still need patches and updates to even run properly these days. The disc is basically just a slow, clunky way to kick off the install.
@capthedon Man, people are really overreacting to Sony ditching physical discs. It's not some big loss like everyone's making it out to be.
Physical discs were never this flawless ownership thing. They scratch, they rot after a while, you misplace them, or they just stop working one day.
@capthedon Then you're screwed. With digital, it's tied to your account. You can redownload it on any console whenever you want. No disc to fail, no plastic degrading in a drawer somewhere. That feels like more reliable ownership to me.
